Fits Metabo BS 12 SP and BSZ 12 series models, replaces OEM part 6.25486.
12V 3000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers consistent voltage throughout the discharge curve for steady drill torque.
Slide connector matches the BS 12 SP battery slot with positive and negative contacts aligned for secure seating.
We bench-tested this cell on the BS 12 SP motor load — Ni-MH pack held voltage stable under sustained drilling without thermal cutoff.
On first use, run the drill at half throttle for two cycles before driving fasteners at full torque — lets the tool profile motor startup current draw properly.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Metabo BS 12 SP — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (6.25486)

This is a 12V 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Metabo BS 12 SP compact drill-driver and related 12V models in the BSZ series. It slots into the same battery port and uses the same contact layout as the original Metabo 6.25486 pack. Capacity is rated at 36Wh.

  • BS 12 SP, BSZ 12, BSZ 12 Impuls, BSZ 12 Premium compatibility: These models share the same 12V battery platform, connector footprint, and charge communication protocol. One battery fits all of them without adapter modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on a BS 12 SP. The BMS responded correctly to motor-start inrush current without tripping overcurrent protection under normal trigger-pull conditions.
  • Break-in for drill-driver use: On first use, run the drill at half load for two cycles before applying maximum torque. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you hit hard fasteners.

BMS overcurrent trip on motor-start inrush in the BS 12 SP

When you pull the trigger on a stalled or heavy load, the motor draws a current spike two to three times its running draw. On a freshly charged or recently stored Ni-MH pack, the BMS may not yet have a calibrated threshold for that spike. If the BMS reads the inrush as a fault, it cuts output instantly — the tool stops before it gets going. Running lighter cycles first gives the BMS the data it needs to distinguish a normal start spike from an actual short-circuit event.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

Ni-MH packs left unused for several months can self-discharge below the voltage floor the charger looks for before starting a charge cycle. The charger sees the low voltage, treats the pack as defective, and refuses to begin. To recover the pack, use a charger with a conditioning or trickle mode to bring cell voltage up slowly to around 1.0V per cell. Once the pack reaches that threshold, the charger will accept it and complete a normal charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BS 12 SP cuts out the moment I pull the trigger hard — is the battery faulty?

Not necessarily faulty — this is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by motor-start inrush current. When the drill hits a tough fastener or starts under load, the current spike can exceed the BMS threshold on a new or storage-rested pack. Run two lighter-load cycles first to let the BMS calibrate its overcurrent limit. After that, the pack should handle full trigger-pull without cutting out.

The drill spins but bogs down badly under load — it feels like it's running out of power halfway through a screw.

That's voltage sag — the cell voltage drops under load faster than it should, and the tool loses torque. On a Ni-MH pack this is often caused by high internal resistance, either from repeated shallow cycling or from cells that never completed a full discharge. Run the pack down to full cutoff and then charge it fully — one complete cycle can restore usable capacity. If the sag continues after two full cycles, the cells have degraded past recovery.

The drill works fine indoors but loses power quickly when I use it outside in cold weather — what's happening?

Ni-MH internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which cuts the voltage the pack can deliver under load. The cells are not damaged — they are just less efficient when cold. Keep the battery in a warm pocket or indoors until just before use, and the performance drop will largely disappear. Do not leave a cold pack on charge immediately; let it reach room temperature first to avoid uneven cell charging.
