Fits Samsung Watch 5 40mm models SM-R900 and SM-R905, replacing OEM part EB-BR900ABY.
3.88V and 270mAh lithium-polymer cell powers display, processor, and sensor activity continuously.
Connector seats into the watch's magnetic charging dock with polarity protection built in.
We bench-tested the BMS on Samsung's fuel gauge IC — full charge cycle completed without fault codes.
After fitting this cell, place the watch on its charger immediately and charge to 100% before first use — the fuel gauge IC cannot calibrate without a full charge cycle from near-zero after a cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung Watch 5 40mm — 3.88V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (EB-BR900ABY)

This is a 3.88V, 270mAh Li-Polymer cell that replaces the original battery in the Samsung Watch 5 40mm smartwatch. It fits SM-R900 and SM-R905 variants. Swap it in when the original cell degrades, fails to hold charge, or can no longer power the watch through a normal day.

  • SM-R900 and SM-R905 fit: Both variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The 21.50 x 19.80 x 5.10mm cell geometry matches the chassis cavity exactly, so the flex connector seats without force.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through charge acceptance and BMS communication checks on SM-R900 hardware. The protection circuit responded correctly to charge termination at 4.35V and tripped low-voltage cutoff at the expected threshold.
  • Fuel gauge reset after swap: After fitting this cell, place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately and charge it to 100% before wearing it. The MAX77729 fuel gauge IC loses its reference point when the cell is disconnected — it cannot re-calibrate without a full charge cycle from near-zero following a cell swap. Skipping this step causes the percentage to read incorrectly for days.

Why the Watch 5 40mm battery degrades faster with always-on display and continuous HR monitoring active

The Watch 5 40mm packs a 270mAh cell into a small chassis, leaving little headroom for high-draw feature combinations. Always-on display keeps the AMOLED panel energised continuously, pulling a steady load the cell was not sized to absorb all day. Add continuous heart rate monitoring — which fires the PPG sensor every second — and the combined draw accelerates capacity fade in the original cell within 12 to 18 months of daily use. A fresh cell restores baseline capacity, but the same feature load applies from day one.

Watch not pairing with phone after battery replacement

Removing the battery cuts power to the BLE stack entirely, which terminates the active pairing session stored in the watch's non-volatile memory. The phone retains its side of the bond record, but the watch no longer recognises it as a trusted device after the power interruption. Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone, go to Watch Settings, and select "Disconnect and remove watch" to clear the stale bond. Re-pair from scratch — the process takes under two minutes and restores full connectivity.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Watch 5 shows 0% and won't turn on right after I put the new battery in — did I get a dead cell?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC loses its charge reference when the old battery is disconnected, so it reports 0% on first power-up because it has no valid state-of-charge data. Place the watch on its charger immediately and leave it until it reads 100% — do not power it on mid-charge. Once that first full cycle completes, the gauge re-calibrates and the percentage reads accurately.

Battery is draining completely within one day — always-on display and heart rate are both on. Is the new cell faulty?

It is not faulty. The Watch 5 40mm carries a 270mAh cell, and that capacity is consumed quickly when always-on display and continuous heart rate monitoring run simultaneously. Always-on display alone is the single largest draw on this platform. Turn off always-on display and set heart rate monitoring to "every 10 minutes" instead of continuous — that combination is the most effective way to extend charge between top-ups on this cell size.

The magnetic charger clicks into place but the watch just shows a spinning wheel and never reaches full charge after the swap.

A spinning wheel during charge usually means the charge contacts are not making consistent electrical contact. Reassembly can shift the back cover by fractions of a millimetre, which misaligns the charging pads relative to the magnetic puck. Remove the charger, inspect the rear contact points for any adhesive residue from the battery swap, and clean them with a dry cloth. Re-seat the charger and confirm the watch displays the solid charging indicator — if the wheel persists, press the charger firmly against the back and hold for five seconds to let the magnets re-centre.
