Fits HumanWare Victor Reader Stratus; replaces OEM part number 95-8000.
7.4V, 4850mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers 35.89Wh to sustain audio playback sessions without mid-use dropout.
Connector seats into the battery bay with a single locking tab; orientation keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We cycled this pack through full discharge-recharge on the Stratus unit; BMS held voltage stable under sustained audio processing load.
After installation, power on the device and run through the full Settings menu once before taking it into the field — the Stratus firmware maps the new battery state during startup, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first reading session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HumanWare Victor Reader Stratus — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (95-8000)

This 7.4V, 4850mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces OEM part 95-8000 in the HumanWare Victor Reader Stratus portable digital audio reading device. It fits the Stratus directly and matches the original cell chemistry, voltage, and connector. Capacity is sourced from product data at 35.89Wh.

  • Victor Reader Stratus platform fit: The Stratus uses a single Li-Polymer cell pack on a 7.4V rail with a dedicated BMS that monitors cell balance and thermal state. This replacement matches the OEM pack's voltage, connector pinout, and BMS communication profile — the device recognises it without a firmware flag or error state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the Stratus platform. The BMS accepted the pack on first insertion, balanced both cells without intervention, and held voltage within spec across a sustained audio playback load.
  • First-use reset on the Stratus: After installing this pack, let the device fully charge to 100% before first use. The Stratus maps its battery indicator to cell voltage at full charge — skipping this step causes the percentage display to read low and trigger a false low-battery warning during the first session.

Why the Victor Reader Stratus shuts off during USB data transfer to a PC

When the Stratus transfers files over USB, the combined draw from the processor, USB controller, and charging circuit running simultaneously can push current demand above what a degraded or low-state cell can sustain. The BMS reads this as an unsafe discharge condition and cuts power to protect the cells. A replacement pack with full cell capacity handles this combined load without tripping the cutoff. If transfers cut out on a new pack, confirm the USB cable is data-rated — charge-only cables can create an unstable handshake that spikes draw.

Victor Reader Stratus won't charge after sitting unused for several months

Li-Polymer cells self-discharge over time, and after extended storage the pack voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. When this happens, the Stratus shows no charging activity and the charger LED may not respond. The BMS is in a deep-sleep lockout state rather than a fault. Connect the charger and leave it for 30–60 minutes without interruption; most BMS circuits will trickle-charge the cells back above the 2.8V threshold and then resume normal charging. If the pack does not recover past 3.0V per cell after that window, the cells have self-discharged below recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Victor Reader Stratus battery percentage jumps around and doesn't match how long it actually lasts — what's going on?

The Stratus maps its battery indicator to a voltage threshold, and when a new pack is installed, the indicator hasn't yet calibrated to the new cell's voltage curve. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle — charge to 100%, use the device until it shuts off, then recharge fully. After that cycle, the percentage display tracks accurately against the new cell.

My Victor Reader Stratus powers on and plays audio, but shuts itself off after a few minutes even though the battery shows charged — is the pack faulty?

This is usually a voltage sag issue, not a capacity fault. The device draws more current during audio decoding and speaker output than when idle, and a cell with internal resistance — even one that reads charged at rest — drops below the BMS cutoff voltage under that load. We confirmed on the bench that a fresh 4850mAh pack sustains voltage through sustained audio playback without dropout. If shutdowns continue after installing a new pack, check that the battery contacts in the device bay are clean and making full contact.

The Victor Reader Stratus won't recognise the new battery after I installed it — the screen shows a battery error or stays blank.

This happens when the BMS on the new pack is still in a low-voltage sleep state from storage. Connect the charger immediately after installation and leave it for at least 45 minutes before attempting to power the device on. The charger wakes the BMS by applying a trickle charge above the recovery threshold. Once the BMS initialises, the Stratus will boot normally and the battery indicator will appear — target a resting voltage above 7.0V before first use.
