Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topcon FC-5000 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1013591-01)
This 3.7V Li-ion battery replaces part number 1013591-01 in the Topcon FC-5000 field controller. Capacity is 13600mAh (50.32Wh). The FC-5000 is a rugged handheld used on survey and construction sites for data collection and positioning work.
- FC-5000 and FC5000 fit confirmation: Both model designations refer to the same Topcon field controller hardware. The connector pinout, BMS handshake protocol, and 3.7V voltage rail are identical across the production run. This replacement uses the same cell configuration the unit expects.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the FC-5000 charge circuit and monitored the BMS during power-on initialisation, GPS lock, and sustained data logging. The BMS held stable across all three load states with no unexpected cutoff events.
- Post-install calibration on the FC-5000: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the FC-5000 instrument menu before your first field deployment. The controller maps battery state during that calibration pass. Skip it and the unit will flag premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session — even with a full charge.
FC-5000 BMS cutoff when GPS or sensor module initialises
When the FC-5000 powers up its positioning module, there is a brief current spike as the GPS receiver initialises and acquires signal. A degraded or deeply discharged original pack often cannot sustain voltage through that spike, causing the BMS to trip and the unit to shut down immediately after the splash screen. This replacement pack's cell capacity and internal resistance are matched to handle that initialisation draw without triggering cutoff. If the issue persists after fitting, check that the battery contacts on the unit are clean and making full contact.
Readings drifting or session data resetting mid-logging
During a sustained logging session, the FC-5000 draws continuous current across GPS, display, and storage simultaneously. If the pack's voltage sags under that combined load, the controller can experience a momentary dropout — enough to reset the active session or corrupt a measurement string. This is distinct from a full shutdown: the unit may recover and continue, but the logged data from that window is lost. Fitting a pack at full rated capacity and ensuring the calibration cycle has been completed both reduce the likelihood of voltage sag under sustained sensor load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FC-5000 won't charge at all after sitting in the carry case for several months — is the battery dead?
Almost certainly not dead, but the BMS has entered sleep mode after self-discharging below its recovery threshold during storage. Connect the unit to the Topcon charger and leave it for at least 90 minutes without interruption — the charger needs time to push enough current to wake the BMS before a normal charge cycle can begin. If the charge indicator still does not respond after 90 minutes, disconnect, wait 10 minutes, and reconnect; this resets the charge handshake. The pack should begin a normal charge cycle once the cell voltage climbs back above approximately 3.0V.
The FC-5000 powers on and runs fine, but shuts off every time I start a USB data transfer to the laptop — what's causing that?
USB data transfer adds a meaningful current draw on top of the active GPS and display load the unit is already sustaining. On a battery with reduced capacity from cycle ageing, that combined draw pulls voltage low enough for the BMS to trigger a protective cutoff — even if the charge indicator showed a healthy percentage before you plugged in. A fresh pack at full 13600mAh capacity handles the combined load without the voltage sag that trips the cutoff. After fitting the replacement, run the FC-5000 calibration cycle before attempting the transfer again.
The battery percentage on the FC-5000 display jumps around erratically after I installed the new pack — it shows 80%, then 45%, then back to 70% within minutes.
This is the FC-5000's voltage-threshold indicator recalibrating itself to the new cell's discharge curve. The original pack's curve was mapped over many cycles; a new cell with different internal characteristics causes the display logic to misread state-of-charge until it collects enough data points. Run at least one full discharge-to-low-warning followed by a complete charge cycle through the Topcon charger — and complete the instrument calibration sequence in the menu. After one or two full cycles the percentage reading will stabilise and track accurately.
