Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topcon FC-5000 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1013591-01)
This is a 3.7V Li-ion battery rated at 10,400mAh (38.48Wh), built to replace OEM part 1013591-01 in the Topcon FC-5000 field controller. The FC-5000 is a rugged data collector used in surveying and construction for GPS positioning, data logging, and instrument control. This replacement fits both FC-5000 and FC5000 unit designations.
- FC-5000 and FC5000 compatibility: Both model designations use the same battery bay, connector pin-out, and BMS handshake protocol tied to OEM part 1013591-01. No hardware modification is needed — the battery management system reads the pack identically across both unit variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on an FC-5000 unit, monitoring BMS communication and cell voltage under simulated GPS logging and sensor polling loads. The BMS reported state-of-charge correctly throughout, with no cutoff events during sustained data acquisition.
- First-deployment calibration: After installing this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the FC-5000 instrument menu before taking it into the field. The controller maps battery state during that calibration pass — skipping it causes the low-battery warning to trigger prematurely on the first measurement session, even at high charge levels.
FC-5000 shutting down mid-logging when GPS fix is acquired
When the FC-5000 locks onto a GPS constellation, the receiver module draws a brief current spike as it initialises position tracking. An aged or deeply discharged pack cannot sustain voltage through that spike, and the BMS trips the output to protect the cells. This shows up as a sudden shutdown right at the moment a fix should be confirmed — not during idle navigation. A fresh pack at full charge handles the surge without voltage sagging below the BMS cutoff threshold. If shutdowns persist after replacing the battery, check that the calibration cycle completed fully before field deployment.
FC-5000 not recognising a new battery after the unit sat in a case for months
Li-ion cells in storage self-discharge slowly, and if the pack voltage drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a protection sleep state and stops communicating with the controller. The FC-5000 reads this as an absent or unrecognised battery rather than a low one. To recover the pack, connect it to the charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on the unit — most BMS circuits require a trickle charge to exit sleep mode and resume normal operation. If the charger shows no activity after 30 minutes, reseat the battery and confirm the charge contacts are clean and making full contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FC-5000 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — is the battery the problem?
USB data transfer adds a combined load on top of whatever the FC-5000 is already running — screen active, GPS module live, internal logging — and that combined draw can push total current demand past what a degraded pack can deliver without voltage dropping below the BMS cutoff. A new battery at full charge handles the combined draw without tripping. Confirm the pack is fully charged, run the calibration cycle through the instrument menu, then attempt the transfer again. If it still cuts out, check the USB cable — a resistive connection increases effective load on the battery side.
The battery percentage on my FC-5000 display jumps around erratically after a reboot — 60%, then 85%, then 40% within minutes.
The FC-5000's charge indicator recalibrates its voltage-threshold map each time a new or deeply cycled pack is installed, and until that calibration stabilises, percentage readings are unreliable. This is not a fault — it is the controller relearning where full, mid, and low voltage sit on the new cell's discharge curve. Run the full calibration cycle through the instrument menu once at full charge, then discharge the pack through a normal field session and recharge completely. After one full cycle, the percentage readout should track steadily without large jumps.
The FC-5000 readings drift and then the session resets itself mid-measurement — what causes that?
Under sustained sensor polling and GPS logging, the FC-5000 draws continuous current from the battery rather than brief spikes. An aged pack with high internal resistance cannot hold a stable output voltage under that sustained load, and when voltage sags past the controller's operating floor, the instrument resets the active session to protect data integrity. The symptom looks like a software glitch but the root cause is voltage dropout, not firmware. Replace the battery, run the calibration cycle, and verify the pack is sitting above 3.6V at rest before starting a long logging session.
