Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Trimble FM1000 / FmX / AgGPS — 6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (67898)
This is a 6V, 12000mAh Li-MnO2 battery for the Trimble FM1000, FmX, and AgGPS field devices. It replaces OEM part numbers 67898, 67898-01S, and ZTN67898-01S. These are GPS-based data collectors used in surveying and precision agriculture, where battery failure mid-session means lost positional data and wasted field time.
- FM1000, FmX, and AgGPS compatibility: All three platforms share the same 6V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell spec covers the full model range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack under sustained GPS acquisition load and GPS + data-logging combined draw. The BMS held voltage within spec across both draw profiles, with no unexpected cutoff events during satellite lock sequences.
- FM1000 initialisation cycle before field deployment: After installing this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the FM1000 instrument menu before taking it into the field. The device maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during the first measurement session, even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS cutoff when the FM1000 powers up a GPS module or antenna
When the FM1000 initialises its GPS module or an attached antenna, it draws a short inrush current spike that exceeds steady-state operating draw by a significant margin. If the battery's BMS has a low trip threshold — common in aged or deeply discharged cells — that spike triggers a protective cutoff before the device fully boots. This pack's BMS is rated to handle the initialisation surge without tripping. If cutoffs still occur on a fresh pack, check that the battery contacts on the device bay are clean and making full surface contact — any resistance at the contact points amplifies the apparent voltage drop the BMS sees.
FM1000 won't recognise a new pack after the unit sat unused for months
Li-MnO2 cells self-discharge slowly during storage, but if a pack drops below approximately 5.4V — the BMS recovery threshold — the protection circuit locks out and the FM1000 reads no battery present. This is a BMS sleep state, not cell damage. Connect the pack to a compatible charger that supports a low-voltage pre-charge or recovery mode; a standard fast charger will simply refuse to engage. Once the charger pushes the pack above the recovery threshold, the BMS re-initialises and normal charging resumes. After recovery, run a full charge to 6V nominal before powering on the device.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FM1000 shuts off mid-session while logging coordinates — the battery indicator was showing half full. What causes that?
This is a voltage dropout under sustained sensor and logging load, not a capacity issue. When the FM1000 is actively logging GPS data and writing to storage simultaneously, the combined draw can pull the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff point even when the indicated charge level looks healthy. The battery indicator on this device reads voltage, not true remaining capacity — a pack with degraded cells can show 50% and still collapse under load. Replace the pack and run the instrument's calibration cycle first so it recalibrates its voltage-to-charge mapping before the next field session.
The FM1000 powers on but cuts out the moment I plug in the USB cable to transfer data to my laptop. Is that a battery fault or a device fault?
That's a combined-draw cutoff — USB data transfer activates the device's internal controller at the same time GPS and memory remain powered, and the total current spike exceeds what a weakened or deeply discharged pack can sustain. A healthy, fully charged pack handles this draw without dropping below the BMS trip voltage. Charge the battery to full before attempting any USB transfer, and confirm the USB cable is data-rated rather than charge-only — a faulty cable can cause voltage instability at the port that reads to the BMS as a draw spike.
After sitting in the carry case all winter, the FM1000 won't charge this new battery — the charger just blinks and stops. What should I do?
Extended storage below approximately 5.4V puts the BMS into a protective sleep state, and most standard chargers reject packs below their minimum input threshold rather than attempting recovery. You need a charger with a low-voltage pre-charge or "wake" mode — this trickle-charges the pack above the recovery threshold before switching to normal charge current. Do not attempt to jump-start the pack from another power source. Once the charger accepts the pack and completes a full charge cycle, verify the terminal voltage reads at or above 6V before installing it in the FM1000.
