This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still mapped to the voltage curve of the old, degraded cell. The fix is a full recalibration cycle: drain to auto shutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, the reported percentage and actual cutoff point align correctly.

Fast charging not available after battery replacement

The Padfone mini's charge IC uses a negotiation handshake before enabling higher charge rates on a new cell. On first charge after a swap, the IC defaults to standard rate while it profiles the cell. Complete one full accepted charge cycle to 100% using the original charger. After that cycle, fast charge availability returns on supported chargers.

The battery is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC learned the voltage curve of your original degraded cell, and it's misreading the new cell's discharge profile. Drain the tablet completely to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. One full cycle recalibrates the gauge and stops the early cutoff.

The battery percentage is jumping around — it reads 60%, then a few minutes later shows 35% without much use.

Erratic percentage readings after a battery swap come from the fuel gauge IC still holding calibration data from the old cell. The new cell's voltage steps don't match the stored profile, so the reported figure skips. Run one complete discharge-to-shutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — this overwrites the old calibration data and stabilises the readout.

The Padfone mini gets noticeably warm while charging the new battery — should I be concerned?

Some warmth during the first few charge cycles is expected. The charge IC on the Padfone mini runs a profiling pass on a new cell, which can produce slightly more heat than a settled cell generates. If the tablet is warm but touchable and charging progresses normally, no action is needed. If the device becomes hot to hold or charging stops and starts repeatedly, disconnect and check that the connector is fully seated.
