Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cleanfriend M488 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 14.4V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Cleanfriend M488 cordless vacuum. It fits directly into the M488 handheld and stick vacuum body. When the original cell degrades and the vacuum loses power mid-clean, this is the replacement unit.
- M488 fitment: The M488 runs a 14.4V Ni-MH pack with a fixed connector orientation and BMS that expects the voltage curve of a Ni-MH cell — not Li-ion. Swapping chemistry types will cause the charger to misread state-of-charge and undercharge or refuse to charge the pack entirely.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge passes and confirmed the BMS holds the correct charge termination signal at peak voltage detection — the standard delta-V cutoff Ni-MH chargers rely on. The cell held steady output across sustained motor load without premature cutoff.
- Dock charging behaviour on the M488: Do not leave the M488 on the charging dock continuously. Ni-MH cells on permanent trickle charge develop capacity fade faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock between uses.
Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor draws more current than the cell can sustain under load — not because the battery is empty, but because voltage is sagging under demand. On the M488, a partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling more amps and causing the pack voltage to drop below what the motor controller needs. The vacuum reads this as low battery even when charge remains. Clear the filter first, then test again — if suction returns to normal, the battery is not the root cause.
Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a few seconds
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failed battery. When suction is restricted — by a blockage, a clogged filter, or a sealed floor attachment — the motor draws a sustained burst of current above the BMS threshold, and the pack shuts output temporarily to protect the cells. The recovery pause is the BMS resetting. Remove the blockage or clean the filter, then restart the vacuum. If trips continue on an unobstructed machine, check that pack voltage at rest is above 12.5V with a multimeter.

Frequently Asked Questions
My M488 vacuum loses suction halfway through a clean but the battery light still shows full — what's happening?
The battery indicator on the M488 reads state-of-charge at rest, not under load. When the filter is even partially blocked, the motor pulls more current than rated, and pack voltage sags enough to drop motor speed before the indicator reacts. Clean the filter completely and test again — if suction holds, the battery is not the problem. If sag continues on a clear filter, check resting pack voltage: a healthy 14.4V Ni-MH cell should read at least 15.0V fully charged off the charger.
The M488 keeps cutting out for a few seconds and then restarting on its own — is the battery faulty?
This is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. The M488's battery management circuit shuts output when sustained current draw exceeds its threshold — which happens fast when the dust canister is full or the filter is clogged and the motor labours against restricted airflow. Empty the canister, wash the filter, and let it dry fully before retesting. If the cut-out stops, the cell is fine — the BMS was doing its job.
The replacement battery on my M488 has noticeably less charge than it did when new after only a few weeks — did I get a dud?
Ni-MH cells degrade fast under continuous dock charging. If the M488 stays plugged into the charger between every use, the charger's trickle maintenance current slowly damages cell capacity — this shows up within weeks, not months. Remove the vacuum from the dock as soon as the charge cycle completes and only put it back when the pack is depleted. Charge cycles from depleted to full preserve Ni-MH capacity significantly better than top-up charging from partial states.
