Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ambrogio Robby Series — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 14.4V 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Ambrogio Robby, Robby Deluxe, and Robby Home XR robotic vacuum cleaners. It slots into the battery compartment of the original unit and restores the power supply that drives the cleaning motor and navigation system. Capacity is 3000mAh (43.2Wh), matching the original specification.
- Robby, Robby Deluxe, and Robby Home XR compatibility: All three models share the same 14.4V battery platform, connector format, and BMS communication protocol. A single cell covers the full range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Robby unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, current draw tracked within spec across both carpet and hard floor modes, and charge termination triggered correctly at capacity.
- Dock charging discipline for Ni-MH cells: Do not leave the Robby sitting on the charging dock indefinitely between uses. Ni-MH chemistry is sensitive to continuous trickle charge — charge the battery to full, then remove it from the dock. Return it to the dock only when the unit needs a full cycle.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
Ni-MH cells deliver a relatively flat discharge curve, so the onboard indicator often lags behind actual cell voltage under load. When the motor draws sustained current — especially over thick carpet or a partially blocked filter — cell voltage sags faster than the indicator registers. The result is audible suction loss while the indicator still shows adequate charge. If the filter is clear and suction still drops early, the cell is no longer holding its rated capacity and replacement is the correct fix.
Motor cutting out and recovering mid-clean
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a cell failure. When airflow is restricted — blocked filter, full dust bin, or a tangled brush roll — the motor draws more current than the BMS threshold allows, and it shuts the output to protect the cell. The unit recovers once the BMS resets, usually within a few seconds. Clear the filter and brush roll first. If the cutout continues on a clean filter with a new battery, check whether the brush roll is binding mechanically.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Ambrogio Robby won't charge on the new replacement battery — the dock light doesn't respond at all. What's happening?
The Robby's charger checks for a minimum resistance signal from the battery pack before it begins charging. If the replacement cell's BMS does not produce that initial handshake, the charger stays silent. Disconnect the battery from the vacuum, wait 60 seconds, reconnect it firmly, and place the unit back on the dock. If the dock light still does not respond, measure the battery's resting voltage at the terminals — it should read at least 12V; anything below that indicates a deeply discharged cell that may need a low-current recovery charge before the standard charger will engage.
The Robby cleans for what feels like a short spell, then stops — even with a fully charged new battery. Could the filter be causing this?
Yes, a blocked filter is the most common cause. A restricted filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling more current than rated, which trips the BMS overcurrent cutoff and halts the unit. Remove and tap out the filter, check the dust bin, and clear any debris from the brush roll before the next run. If the unit completes a full clean cycle after that, the filter was the issue — not the cell.
I left the Ambrogio Robby sitting on the dock for several weeks while I was away. Now it seems to have lost capacity very quickly. Did I damage the battery?
Continuous dock charging is the primary cause of capacity fade in Ni-MH robotic vacuum batteries. The charger switches to a low trickle current once the cell is full, but sustained trickle charge over weeks causes heat buildup inside the pack and degrades the cell chemistry. Run the battery through two or three full discharge-and-charge cycles — use the vacuum until it stops, charge to full, and remove it from the dock immediately. If capacity does not recover after those cycles, the cell will need replacement.
