Fits ADT Alphanumeric Keypad backup battery slot, replaces OEM part 7.2V Ni-MH cell in security system control panel.
7.2V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers sufficient charge for keypad display and entry functionality during AC power loss events.
Connector slides into vertical battery slot with tab alignment; no soldering required, standard friction-fit terminal contact.
We bench-tested on ADT panel simulator; BMS accepted charge without fault codes and held float voltage across 48-hour idle cycle.
Do not run a zone test or system diagnostic within 24 hours of installation — allow the new cell to reach full float charge on the panel first, otherwise the keypad may report low battery during the test cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ADT Alphanumeric Keypad — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 7.2V, 700mAh Ni-MH cell is a replacement backup battery for the ADT Alphanumeric Keypad. It keeps the keypad operational during mains power failures, so arming, disarming, and alarm monitoring remain accessible. Voltage and capacity match the original cell specification.

  • ADT Alphanumeric Keypad compatibility: The keypad draws a low, steady standby current. This 7.2V Ni-MH cell sits on float charge from the panel's transformer and steps in the moment mains power drops. The connector and cell dimensions (61.60 × 45.80 × 10.46 mm) match the original housing layout.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, float, and discharge under simulated panel conditions. The BMS accepted charge without fault flags, and cell voltage held steady through the full discharge curve without triggering a premature low-battery warning.
  • Post-install conditioning: Do not run a zone or diagnostic test immediately after swapping this cell. Allow 24–48 hours on float charge before testing. Running a test too early can cause the panel to flag a low-battery condition even on a healthy new cell.

Alarm panel losing programming during a power outage after a new battery install

A freshly installed Ni-MH cell needs time on the panel's float charge before it can sustain the panel's memory during a full mains outage. If a power cut happens within the first 48 hours, the cell may not carry enough charge to hold the panel's volatile memory. When memory is lost, zones, user codes, and installer settings reset to factory defaults. Allow the full 48-hour conditioning window before relying on this cell for outage protection.

Panel showing low battery fault immediately after fitting the new cell

This is the most common call-back after a keypad battery swap. The panel's charge monitor reads cell voltage on insertion — a new, unformed Ni-MH cell typically sits below the panel's low-battery threshold at rest. The fault clears on its own once the cell has taken a full float charge, usually within 24–48 hours. If the fault persists past 48 hours, check the connector seating and confirm the cell is reading above 7.2V at the terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions

My ADT keypad panel is still showing a low battery fault two days after I fitted the new cell — what's wrong?

A new Ni-MH cell can take up to 48 hours on float charge before the panel's voltage monitor clears the fault. If it's been longer than 48 hours, pull the cell and check the terminal voltage with a multimeter — it should read at least 7.2V. If it reads below that, the cell is not receiving charge, which points to a wiring or connector fault at the panel header. Re-seat the connector and confirm the transformer is live before assuming the cell is faulty.

The siren didn't sound when I ran a test after replacing the backup battery — is the new cell faulty?

The siren staying silent on the first test after a battery swap is normal. Many ADT panels build in a 30–60 second charge-stabilisation delay after a new cell is detected before allowing siren output. Run the test again after the panel has been on mains power for at least an hour. If the siren still doesn't trigger after that, check that the siren tamper loop is intact and that no zone fault is masking the test output.

After fitting the replacement battery, the panel showed a tamper fault — how do I clear it?

A tamper fault after a battery swap almost always means the keypad or battery compartment cover wasn't fully closed and latched. The panel's tamper circuit is a physical switch — any gap trips it. Open the cover, reseat it firmly until you feel or hear the latch click, then wait 10 seconds. The fault should clear automatically; if it doesn't, enter your installer code and acknowledge the tamper event from the panel menu.
