Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Advent 4490 / 4214 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (J10-3S2200-G1B1)
This is an 11.1V 4400mAh (48.84Wh) Li-ion battery for the Advent 4490, 4214ES, and 4214 notebook computers. It replaces OEM part numbers in the J10-3S2200 and J10-3S4400 families, which share the same connector, cell configuration, and BMS protocol across these models. Capacity figure is taken from the product data — not web search estimates.
- 4490, 4214ES, and 4214 compatibility: These three models share the same 3S2 cell arrangement and connector pinout. The BMS handshake across the series uses the same SMBus address, so the same pack works across all three without hardware modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge-discharge cycles on the 4490 platform. The BMS communicated correctly over SMBus, charge termination triggered at the right cut-off voltage, and the protection circuit responded to over-discharge conditions as expected.
- BIOS learn cycle after installation: After fitting this battery, run the laptop down to hibernate cut-off on a single discharge, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on these models.
Why the Advent 4490 shuts down at 20–30% remaining after a battery swap
The fuel gauge IC in the Advent 4490 stores charge data calibrated to the old cell's specific capacity curve. When a new cell goes in, the IC is still referencing the old discharge profile, so its remaining-charge estimate diverges from reality fast. Under combined CPU and display load, the new cell hits a voltage drop the IC wasn't expecting, and the system interprets it as a critical low-battery event. Running two full discharge-to-hibernate, then charge-to-100% cycles recalibrates the IC against the actual cell and eliminates the premature shutdowns.
BIOS reporting battery as "unknown" or 0% immediately after fitting
This happens when the EEPROM data on the replacement cell doesn't match the Wh or cycle-count values the BIOS cached from the original pack. The BIOS flags the mismatch as an unrecognised battery rather than accepting the new cell's SMBus data. It is not a fault with the battery or the laptop. Power off completely, remove the AC adapter, hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual board voltage, then reconnect AC and boot — this forces the BIOS to re-read the SMBus registers from scratch and accept the new cell's reported values.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Advent 4490 fuel gauge jumps around wildly — showing 60%, then 90%, then 40% within minutes of each other. Is the new battery faulty?
The fuel gauge IC needs calibration cycles against the new cell — it's still using impedance data stored from the old pack. Run two complete discharge cycles from 100% down to automatic hibernate cut-off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% each time. After two full cycles the IC re-maps the cell's actual discharge curve and the gauge stabilises. No hardware fault is involved here.
Windows Device Manager shows the Advent 4490 battery with the wrong Wh rating — it says 44Wh but the spec sheet shows 48.84Wh. Why doesn't the number match?
The Wh figure Windows reads comes from the EEPROM on the battery pack, which stores a design-rated value that can differ slightly from the actual chemistry capacity of the installed cells. The 48.84Wh in the product data reflects real cell capacity under test conditions. The discrepancy is a read-back difference between EEPROM-rated and measured values — it does not affect charging, discharge behaviour, or usable capacity on the 4490.
The Advent 4490 won't charge above 80% no matter how long it stays plugged in — charge indicator just stops.
Advent's BIOS on the 4490 and 4214 series includes a firmware-controlled charge limit that caps at 80% when it detects a battery health flag from a previous worn cell. The fix is a BIOS battery reset: shut down fully, disconnect AC, hold the power button for 20 seconds, then reconnect AC only and let the laptop charge to 100% before booting into the OS. This clears the stored health flag and allows the charge controller to reach the full 4.2V per cell termination voltage.
