Fast charging unavailable after battery swap on the Fire 8

Amazon's charge IC uses a negotiation cycle on the first accepted charge to confirm adapter and cell compatibility before enabling higher charge rates. After a battery replacement, this handshake resets. Plug the tablet into the original Amazon 5W or 9W adapter — not a third-party charger — and let it complete one full uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle, the charge IC re-enables the faster charge profile and the amber-to-green indicator behaves normally again.

The battery percentage on my Kindle Fire 8 drops from 100% to 80% within the first few minutes of use after replacement — what's wrong?

The fuel gauge IC stores calibration data from the original cell and applies it immediately to the new one, causing fast apparent drain at the top of the charge curve. Nothing is wrong with the new cell itself. Force a full recalibration: drain to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with the screen off. After that single cycle the percentage drop from full will normalise and track consistently across the full range.

The Kindle Fire 8 gets noticeably warm near the top-right corner while charging the new battery — should I stop?

That warmth comes from the charge IC on the tablet's board, not the cell itself. On the first charge after a battery swap, the charge IC runs at full current while re-establishing its BMS handshake, which produces slightly more heat than a routine top-up charge. It is normal and typically settles after the first complete charge cycle.
