Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

American DJ WIFLY EXR QA5 IP — 22.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (Z-WIF268)
This 22.2V 7800mAh Li-ion battery replaces part number Z-WIF268 in the American DJ WIFLY EXR QA5 IP wireless intelligent lighting fixture. It powers the onboard DMX receiver and LED driver system through full shows without a tether to mains power. Capacity figures come from the product data — 173.16Wh at 22.2V nominal.
- WIFLY EXR QA5 IP compatibility: The QA5 IP uses a 6S Li-ion configuration at 22.2V nominal to meet the voltage rail required by its constant-current LED driver and wireless DMX receiver board. Swapping to a different voltage or cell count trips the ballast protection circuit and prevents the unit from powering on.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the bench and confirmed the BMS holds cell balance across all six series cells. Protection thresholds for over-voltage, over-current, and under-voltage all triggered at expected limits with no false cutoffs under LED driver load.
- Storage charge for the QA5 IP: If the fixture sits unused between events for more than two weeks, discharge to approximately 50% before storing. Full-charge storage at venue temperatures — often above 25°C — accelerates capacity fade in the high-capacity cells this unit uses.
Why the QA5 IP dims before the low-battery indicator activates
The LED driver in the QA5 IP operates in constant-current mode, which means it pulls harder on the battery as cell voltage drops under load. Voltage sag begins well before the pack reaches the BMS low-voltage cutoff, and the driver cannot maintain full output current at the sagging rail. The fixture responds by stepping output down — this looks like dimming but is actually the driver backing off to stay within regulation. If this happens early in a show, check resting voltage before the next event — a healthy pack at full charge should read 25.2V at rest.
QA5 IP showing an error code or refusing to power on after a battery swap
After a battery swap, some QA5 IP units flag an error or stay dark on first power-on. The ballast firmware runs a battery handshake check at startup and can reject a pack if the initial voltage reading falls outside its acceptance window — particularly if the replacement battery shipped in a partial state of charge. Remove the battery, charge it fully to 25.2V, reinsert it, then power-cycle the fixture. That sequence clears the fault flag in the majority of cases without any further intervention.

Frequently Asked Questions
My QA5 IP is dimming mid-show even though the battery indicator still shows green — what's happening?
The battery indicator reads state of charge, not instantaneous voltage under load. When the LED driver pulls high current, cell voltage sags below what the indicator threshold detects, so the driver steps output down while the indicator still shows green. This is voltage sag, not a faulty battery — it becomes more noticeable as the pack ages and internal resistance rises. Check resting voltage before the next show; a full pack should measure 25.2V with no load applied.
The QA5 IP won't accept the new battery after it sat in storage for several months — how do I get it working?
Extended storage, especially at full or near-full charge, causes cell voltage to drift down over time. If the resting voltage drops below the ballast's acceptance threshold — typically around 18V for a 6S pack — the fixture refuses to initialise. Charge the battery on a compatible 22.2V Li-ion charger and let it reach a full 25.2V before reinserting it. Once the pack is back above the acceptance floor, power-cycle the QA5 IP and it should initialise normally.
The QA5 IP runs noticeably shorter at full output than it used to — is that a battery problem or a fixture problem?
At maximum LED output, the QA5 IP's constant-current driver draws proportionally more current from the 22.2V rail, which reduces the usable capacity before the BMS cutoff trips. If the fixture's output settings haven't changed but run time has dropped, measure resting voltage immediately after a full charge — it should read 25.2V. A pack reading below 24.5V at rest after a full charge cycle has lost measurable capacity and should be replaced. The fixture itself is not the cause if output and colour remain consistent when the battery is fresh.
