Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

American DJ WIFLY EXR DOTZ PAR — 18.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery (Z-WIF022)
This 18.5V 10400mAh (192.4Wh) Li-ion battery replaces the Z-WIF022 pack in the American DJ WIFLY EXR DOTZ PAR wireless LED PAR fixture. It fits the original battery bay and connects to the fixture's internal LED driver without modification. Use it when AC power is unavailable or impractical during live performances and venue installations.
- WIFLY EXR DOTZ PAR platform fit: The DOTZ PAR's LED driver runs a constant-current rail at 18.5V. The cell configuration and connector pinout on this pack match that rail exactly, so the driver draws cleanly from full charge through to the low-battery cutoff threshold.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on the WIFLY EXR DOTZ PAR at full output and confirmed the BMS holds voltage steadily through high-draw LED cycles. The protection circuit trips at the correct low-cell threshold rather than cutting mid-show at partial discharge.
- Storage charge for event inventory: If this fixture sits unused between events for more than two weeks, store the battery at roughly 50% charge. The high-capacity Li-ion cells in this pack degrade faster when held at 100% charge in a warm gear bag or road case.
Why the DOTZ PAR dims before the battery indicator reaches low
The WIFLY EXR DOTZ PAR's LED driver operates in constant-current mode, which means it pulls harder from the battery as cell voltage drops. Under a full-output load, voltage sag across the cell pack can push the driver below its regulation threshold well before the battery status indicator shows low. This is a cell-load interaction, not a faulty pack. Running the fixture at 70–80% output intensity significantly reduces instantaneous current draw and keeps the voltage rail stable longer across the discharge curve.
Battery not accepted by the DOTZ PAR after extended storage
After extended storage, individual cells can drop below the fixture's BMS acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell in a 5S Li-ion configuration like this 18.5V pack. When the fixture sees a pack below that floor, it refuses to power on as a protection measure. Connect the battery to a Li-ion charger that supports a recovery or pre-charge mode, which trickle-charges depleted cells back above the acceptance voltage. Once the pack reads at or above 15V resting, reinsert it and the fixture should recognise it normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The DOTZ PAR steps down to a lower brightness level mid-show but the battery indicator still shows green — what's happening?
The LED driver is hitting a voltage sag floor before the indicator catches up. Constant-current drivers pull increasing current as cell voltage drops, and the indicator samples voltage at rest rather than under load — so it lags the real state. Reduce output intensity to around 70–75% when running on battery to keep the pack's voltage above the driver's regulation threshold. If the step-down still happens early, check resting voltage on the pack — it should read at or above 17.5V before a full show run.
The WIFLY EXR DOTZ PAR throws an error code immediately after inserting a new or stored replacement battery — how do I clear it?
This is a firmware battery-check handshake issue, not a faulty pack. The fixture's controller checks the pack on insertion and can flag an error if the initial voltage reading is outside its expected window — especially on a battery that has been sitting discharged. Power-cycle the fixture completely: remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, reinsert, then power on. If the error persists, charge the battery to at least 18V resting before reinserting — that puts the pack within the handshake acceptance range.
This battery runs noticeably shorter at maximum output compared to medium intensity — is the pack defective?
It is not defective — this is normal behaviour for high-capacity Li-ion cells under LED driver load. The DOTZ PAR's LEDs at maximum output can draw two to three times the current compared to 50% intensity, which compresses the usable portion of the discharge curve significantly. Capacity in watt-hours (192.4Wh) is fixed, but high current draw also generates heat that the BMS may respond to with an early cutoff. Run a discharge test at medium intensity to confirm the pack delivers a full cycle — if it does, the pack is good and the load is the variable.
