Fits Apple Watch Series 3 GPS 38mm and replaces OEM part number A1847.
This 3.81V, 260mAh Li-Polymer cell restores full smartwatch functionality after battery degradation or capacity loss.
Connector attaches to the watch logic board via flex cable; no locking tab, alignment critical during reassembly.
We bench-tested this cell in a Series 3 unit; the fuel gauge IC recognized the new pack after a full charge cycle.
After fitting the new cell, place the watch on its charger immediately and charge to 100% before first use—the fuel gauge IC cannot calibrate without a full charge cycle from near-zero after a cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Apple Watch Series 3 GPS 38mm — 3.81V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (A1847)

The A1847 is the OEM-matching cell for Apple Watch Series 3 GPS 38mm (A1860). It runs at 3.81V with a 260mAh (0.99Wh) capacity. This Li-Polymer cell fits the 38mm case form factor — not the 42mm variant.

  • Series 3 38mm platform fit: The Watch Series 3 GPS 38mm and Watch Series 3 38mm (A1860) share the same 25.06 × 16.50 × 5.10mm cell bay, voltage rail, and flex connector. A1847 is the correct part for both listings — the same BMS handshake applies across the GPS-only configuration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Series 3 38mm unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, the fuel gauge initialised correctly after a full charge cycle, and heart rate plus GPS sensors drew current within expected parameters.
  • Post-swap charging requirement: After fitting the new cell, place the watch on its magnetic charger immediately and charge to 100% before first use. The fuel gauge IC on this platform cannot set an accurate reference point without a full charge cycle from near-zero following a cell swap — skipping this step causes the percentage display to read incorrectly for days.

Why the Series 3 fuel gauge loses calibration after a cell swap

The Series 3 uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that tracks capacity relative to a stored charge reference. Removing the old cell wipes that reference from volatile memory. The new cell arrives partially charged, so the IC has no fixed zero-point to count from. Until a full charge cycle resets the reference, the gauge extrapolates — producing readings that swing between 0% and artificially high values within the same hour.

Watch not pairing to iPhone after battery replacement

Removing power during a battery swap terminates the active BLE session between the watch and iPhone. The watch comes back up as an unrecognised peripheral because the encrypted pairing keys are stored on the watch side but the phone-side session state is stale. Open the Watch app on iPhone, tap your watch, select "Unpair Apple Watch," then re-pair from scratch. The watch does not need to be erased — unpairing and re-pairing restores the encrypted channel without data loss if iCloud backup is active.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Series 3 shows 0% and won't turn on right after I replaced the battery — did I get a dead cell?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC lost its charge reference when the old battery was disconnected, and a partially charged new cell gives it no zero-point to calibrate from. Place the watch on its magnetic charger without powering it on first and let it charge uninterrupted to 100%. After one full cycle from near-zero the gauge resets its reference and the display will read correctly.

Battery is draining completely within a day on my Series 3 — the old one lasted much longer before it failed.

Always-on heart rate monitoring combined with GPS activity logging is the most common cause of faster-than-expected drain on Series 3. Check whether "Heart Rate" background monitoring is set to "Always" in the Watch app under Privacy — switching it to "While Exercising" alone cuts continuous sensor draw significantly. Also confirm the watch face is not a high-refresh Infograph or Modular face, as complication refresh adds measurable load on a 260mAh cell.

The magnetic charger clicks on but the charging icon never appears after I replaced the battery — charge contacts look fine.

A slight shift in the display assembly during reassembly can misalign the internal ground contact even when the rear looks seated. Power the watch fully off, lift and re-seat the screen ensuring all four corners sit flush with the case, then place it back on the charger. If the charging icon still does not appear, check the charge cable with a known-good Series 3 unit to confirm the puck itself is not the fault before reopening the case.
