Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Archos 45 Platinum

An aged Li-ion cell develops higher internal resistance. Under screen-on or modem load, voltage drops sharply — fast enough to hit the low-voltage cutoff before the reported percentage reaches zero. The phone cuts out even though the gauge shows charge remaining. This is a cell-level failure, not a software bug. Replacing the cell resolves it because the new cell sustains voltage under load without that sudden sag.

Phone reporting wrong battery percentage after cell swap

The Archos 45 Platinum uses a fuel gauge IC that builds a discharge model from previous charge cycles. When the cell is replaced, that stored model no longer matches the new cell's actual capacity curve. The percentage readout will jump or drift until the IC re-learns the curve. Run one full discharge to around 5% and then charge to 100% without interruption — after that cycle the gauge reads accurately.

My Archos 45 Platinum shuts off at around 25% after I put in the new battery — is the replacement faulty?

Not necessarily faulty — the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so it misreads the voltage cliff on the new cell. Run one uninterrupted full discharge down to near 5%, then charge to 100%. After that single cycle, the IC recalibrates and the shutdowns stop.

The phone won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months before I installed it — what do I do?

If the cell self-discharged below roughly 2.5V in storage, the BMS has locked out to prevent damage and will not accept a normal charge. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC on the phone will trickle current into the cell to bring it above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once voltage recovers above 3.0V, the phone will boot normally.

The Archos 45 Platinum gets noticeably warm near the battery while charging the new cell — is that normal?

Some warmth on the first few charge cycles is expected. A new cell starts with slightly higher impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates a little more energy as heat during the constant-current phase. If the back of the phone becomes hot to the touch — not just warm — remove it from charge and let it cool before continuing. After two or three full cycles, impedance drops and the warmth reduces.
