Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos 70 Oxygen — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (298292)

This 3.8V, 3000mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces OEM part 298292 in the Archos 70 Oxygen tablet (AC70OX and AC70OXV2). It fits the 7-inch Android tablet directly, restoring untethered operation when the original cell has degraded. Capacity is 11.4Wh — matching the factory specification.

  • AC70OX and AC70OXV2 compatibility: Both board revisions share the same 3.8V rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol, so a single cell covers the full 70 Oxygen lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the AC70OX board. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, charge current ramped correctly through CC/CV stages, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Post-installation calibration step: After fitting this battery, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the device. This resets the fuel gauge IC calibration against the new cell and clears the inaccurate percentage readings that typically appear after a swap.

Archos 70 Oxygen shutting down at 15–25% remaining

This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's voltage-curve profile. A new cell holds a steeper voltage slope at low charge levels, so the tablet hits the hardware shutdown threshold before the OS percentage counter reaches zero. It is not a defect in the replacement battery. Run one complete discharge cycle to automatic shutoff, then a full uninterrupted charge — the gauge will re-map its cutoff point to the new cell's actual 3.0V floor.

Fast charging not available after battery swap on the 70 Oxygen

The Archos 70 Oxygen charge IC negotiates fast-charge parameters during the first accepted charge cycle on a new cell. Until that cycle completes, the controller defaults to standard 5V charging as a safety measure. Plug into the original charger and allow a full uninterrupted charge from near-zero to 100%. After that single cycle, the charge IC registers the new cell's internal resistance and re-enables the higher current profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Archos 70 Oxygen is showing 40% battery but just switched off — is the new battery faulty?

It is almost certainly a fuel gauge calibration issue, not a faulty cell. The gauge IC inside the tablet was mapped to the old battery's voltage curve, and the new cell hits its low-voltage floor at a different point on that curve. Run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using it mid-cycle. After that one full cycle, the gauge recalibrates and the premature shutdowns stop.

The battery percentage is jumping around — went from 60% to 80% without charging. What causes that?

Fuel gauge drift after a cell swap. The Archos 70 Oxygen uses a coulomb-counter IC that tracks charge in and out relative to a stored capacity baseline — that baseline still reflects the old, degraded cell. With a fresh 3000mAh cell installed, the counter loses sync and reports erratic jumps. One complete discharge to automatic shutoff followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the baseline to the new cell's actual capacity.

The tablet gets warm near the top edge while charging after I fitted this battery — is that normal?

Yes. The charge IC and power management circuitry sit near the top of the 70 Oxygen board, and on the first few cycles with a new cell the charge IC runs a slightly longer CC phase to assess the new cell's internal resistance. That generates a modest heat rise at the board level — not at the battery itself. It settles after two or three full cycles. If the tablet becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, disconnect the charger and check that the charge cable is not drawing more than 5V/2A.
