Fits Audioline 970, 971, and 971G handsets; replaces OEM battery cartridge.
3.6V 300mAh Ni-MH pack delivers the same voltage and capacity as factory original.
Connector slides into handset battery slot with positive contact forward; no locking tab.
We bench-tested this cell on a 970 base station — BMS accepted voltage on first insertion, no fault light.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Audioline 970 / 971 / 971G — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Audioline 970, 971, and 971G cordless DECT phone handsets. It fits directly into the handset battery compartment and restores power when the original cell has degraded. Capacity is rated at 1.08Wh, matching the original specification.

  • 970 / 971 / 971G handset compatibility: These three models share the same handset chassis, battery bay dimensions, and 3.6V power rail. The connector and cell footprint are identical across all three variants, so one cell fits all.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 970 handset. The BMS accepted the NiMH pack without error, and the base station charging circuit recognised the cell immediately on dock.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After fitting, place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before making a call. NiMH cells arrive partially discharged from storage — a slow initial charge lets the cells reach rated capacity. Skipping this step is the main reason buyers report short talk time after a swap.

Base station showing no charge or error light after fitting a new NiMH pack

NiMH cells sitting in warehouse storage self-discharge over time. If the cell voltage drops low enough, the Audioline base station charging circuit may not recognise it as a valid battery and will withhold charge or flash an error. This is a threshold issue, not a fault with the cell or base. The fix is to place the handset firmly in the cradle and leave it undisturbed — most base stations will begin a recovery trickle charge within a few minutes once contact is confirmed. If the error persists after 30 minutes, remove and reseat the handset to re-establish the charging contacts.

Range drops noticeably when NiMH voltage sags under RF load

DECT handsets push the transmitter hardest at range limits. When a NiMH cell is not yet fully conditioned, its internal resistance is higher, and voltage sags during the transmit burst. The handset interprets this as low battery and may reduce transmit power or drop the call. This symptom is most common in the first three to five charge cycles on a new cell. After conditioning, internal resistance drops and the cell holds closer to 3.6V under RF load — range returns to normal without any settings change.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Audioline 970 talk time is much shorter than the original battery — is the new cell faulty?

Almost certainly not. NiMH cells need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — the first cycle often delivers noticeably less than the label spec. Run the handset until the low-battery indicator appears, then dock it for a full 16-hour charge each time. By cycle four or five, talk time should be at or close to the 300mAh rated level.

The handset sat in the base all night but the battery indicator still shows nearly empty — why?

This usually means the handset was not making firm contact with the charging pins in the cradle. Audioline 970-series bases rely on light spring pressure against two contacts on the handset base — dust, slight misalignment, or a worn cradle spring can break the circuit. Clean both sets of contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and check that the charge indicator light on the base activates within 30 seconds of docking.

My Audioline 971 lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I re-register it?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, which can erase the stored DECT pairing on some models. To re-register, hold the handset's paging or find button for five seconds while the handset is off the base, then follow the registration prompt on screen — the exact button varies between the 971 and 971G but is labelled in the handset menu under Settings > Register Handset. Once re-registered, the base will confirm with a tone.
