This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Bell South cordless phone handsets. It fits the 36247, 36250, 42002, 42003, and over 98 additional Bell South models. When the original pack can no longer hold a charge, the handset loses all wireless range — this battery restores cordless operation.

  • Multi-model fit across the Bell South cordless range: These handsets share the same 3.6V NiMH cell format, connector orientation, and charge acceptance circuit. One pack covers the full listed range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the base station charge circuit on a 36247 handset. The BMS accepted charge without error, and the pack reached full voltage across three conditioning cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones arrive in partial charge from storage — a slow first charge is what gets the pack to rated capacity.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

NiMH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. A replacement pack fresh from storage will deliver noticeably shorter talk time in the first few uses — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault. Each full cycle builds capacity until the cells stabilise near the 1200mAh rating. Run the handset until it needs charging, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat for the first few cycles.

Base station not charging after battery swap

If the base shows no charge indicator or an error light after you install the new pack, the issue is usually NiMH voltage sitting below the base station's charge-acceptance threshold after extended storage. Most Bell South base stations expect to see at least 3.0V at the contacts before triggering the charge cycle. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, reseat it firmly, and check that both contacts on the battery and handset are clean and making full contact. If the indicator still does not light, use a multimeter to confirm battery terminal voltage above 3.0V before returning it.

Yes, this is a real issue with NiMH packs that haven't fully conditioned yet. When cell voltage sags under RF transmit load, the handset's radio drops power to compensate, and range collapses. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles first — range typically recovers as the cells reach stable voltage. If range is still poor after five cycles, check that the handset is fully seated during charging so the pack reaches full 4.32Wh capacity each time.

My Bell South handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix this?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing record when power is completely removed from the handset. This happens because pairing data is held in volatile memory on certain Bell South models. To re-pair, place the handset on the base, hold the page or find button on the base station for five seconds, then follow the handset's on-screen pairing prompt. Consult the handset's manual for the exact key sequence for your specific model number.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

A fully seated handset should draw almost no power from the battery overnight — the base supplies standby current directly through the charge contacts. If the battery is draining overnight, the handset is not making proper contact with the base charging pins. Remove the handset, inspect the gold charge contacts on both the handset and the base for corrosion or debris, and clean them with a dry cloth. Reseat the handset until you hear or feel it click into position, then check that the charge indicator lights within a few seconds.
