Fits Nortel P0871365 cordless phone handsets; OEM battery replacement restores full charge cycles.
3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers standard talk time on DECT handsets without capacity loss.
Connector slides into handset battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush.
We bench tested the cell on a Nortel base station — BMS accepted the pack without error codes on first insertion.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH batteries require this slow first charge to reach rated capacity on DECT equipment.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nortel P0871365 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH battery for the Nortel P0871365 cordless phone handset. It replaces the original pack when talk time has dropped or the handset no longer holds a charge. Dimensions are 50.43 × 42.54 × 14.40mm — verify your existing battery matches before ordering.

  • P0871365 handset fit: The P0871365 uses a 3.6V three-cell Ni-MH pack to power the DECT radio and baseband processor on the same voltage rail. Swapping to a different voltage or chemistry will cause charging faults or handset shutdowns.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH compatible charger and confirmed the BMS accepted full charge without thermal flag or cutoff error. Voltage held stable under RF transmit load.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this step will leave you with noticeably short talk time from the start.

Base station showing no charge light after fitting a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH packs drop to around 3.0V or lower during storage. Some Nortel bases use a voltage threshold check before starting the charge cycle — if the pack comes in below that floor, the base treats it as a fault and shows no charge indicator. The fix is a short external boost charge using a standalone Ni-MH charger to bring the pack above 3.3V, then reseat in the base. After that, the base charge circuit accepts it normally and the charge light activates.

Range dropping mid-call after a battery swap

DECT handsets increase transmit power when signal weakens, which pulls harder from the battery. A Ni-MH pack in its first few cycles has not yet reached full capacity, so voltage sags under that RF load and the handset pulls back transmit power to protect itself — cutting effective range. This resolves after three to five full charge-discharge cycles, which condition the cells to rated capacity. If range is still short after five cycles, measure resting voltage: a healthy pack should read at least 3.6V off the charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

Talk time is still short after a week — is the new battery faulty?

Ni-MH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — this is normal behaviour, not a defect. Each cycle conditions the cells further, and talk time increases noticeably with each one. Make sure the handset sits in the base long enough for a complete charge before each use. If talk time is still below expectation after five full cycles, check resting voltage off the charger — it should read at least 3.6V.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT phones lose their pairing data when power is fully interrupted, which happens when you remove the battery. This is a firmware behaviour, not a fault with the battery itself. Re-register the handset to the base following the pairing steps in your Nortel handset manual — usually holding the page or find button on the base while pressing the menu key on the handset. Once paired, the handset operates normally.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

If the handset is not fully seated in the base cradle, the charging contacts do not make a solid connection and the base does not charge the battery. Meanwhile, the handset's standby circuitry continues drawing current and can drain the pack overnight. Remove the handset, clean the charge contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, then reseat it firmly and confirm the charge indicator activates.
