Fits Bendix-King RPU416, RPU599, RPV516 models; replaces OEM part BPRP1100, BPRP1500.
7.2V Ni-MH chemistry delivers 2000mAh capacity for full-shift portable radio operation.
Connector orientation and locking tab match original pack; slides into radio dock without modification.
We bench-tested the cell on RPU416 dock charge cycle; BMS accepted dock voltage handshake on first insertion.
If the radio dock shows no charge indicator after insertion, remove the pack, wipe both gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — Bendix-King dock requires clean contact confirmation before bar display updates.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bendix-King RPU416 / RPV516 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH 2000mAh Replacement Battery (BPRP1100)

This is a 7.2V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bendix-King RPU416, RPU599, RPV516, and RPV516A portable two-way radios. It replaces OEM part numbers BPRP1100, BPRP1500, and BPRP1500MH. Capacity is 2000mAh (14.4Wh), matching the original specification.

  • RPU/RPV platform compatibility: The RPU416, RPU599, RPV516, and RPV516A share the same 7.2V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack fits the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on RPV516 hardware. The BMS accepted the charger handshake on first insertion and held steady voltage under simulated PTT transmit load without triggering overcurrent cutoff.
  • First insertion contact check: Bendix-King charger docks on this platform require a clean contact cycle to register a new pack. If the dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly before attempting to charge again.

Why the RPU416 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted battery

Pressing PTT on the RPU416 draws a sharp current spike — sometimes 2–3x the standby draw — as the radio hits full RF output. A Ni-MH cell that shipped at storage voltage, typically around 6.0–6.4V on a 7.2V pack, can sag below the BMS undervoltage threshold during that spike and trip a momentary cutout. This is not a faulty battery. Run the pack through one full charge cycle before putting the radio back on shift and the cell voltage will be at nominal, where it handles transmit peaks cleanly.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting a new pack

The RPU416 and RPV516 use a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar lights above a fixed voltage step. A new Ni-MH cell at storage voltage reads lower than a fully charged one, so the radio may show two bars on a pack that still has significant capacity remaining. This is a voltage reading, not a capacity fault. Charge the pack fully — the indicator should read at the top bar once the pack reaches 8.4–8.6V off the charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

The RPU416 drops out of transmit for a split second when I key up — then comes back. Why?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the transmit current spike when PTT is pressed. On a Ni-MH pack at partial charge, the cell voltage sags sharply under RF output load and briefly crosses the BMS cutoff threshold. The BMS resets in milliseconds, which is why the radio recovers immediately. Charge the pack fully before use — a cell at full nominal voltage handles the transmit spike without sagging into cutoff.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging — but the battery seats correctly. What's wrong?

The Bendix-King dock checks pack voltage before it commits to a charge cycle. If the cell shipped below the dock's acceptance threshold — typically under 6.0V on a 7.2V Ni-MH pack after extended storage — the dock reads it as a fault rather than a dischargeable pack. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, reseat it firmly, and try again. If the fault LED persists, a short trickle-charge using a compatible Ni-MH charger can bring the cell voltage up to the dock's acceptance floor.

My RPV516 radio was sitting unused for three months with the battery installed. Now it won't power on at all.

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature, so three months of storage can drop a fully charged pack below the radio's minimum startup voltage. The BMS may also be in a lockout state if the cell voltage fell below the deep-discharge threshold. Place the pack on the charger and leave it for a full cycle — even if the dock shows no activity initially, most docks will begin a recovery trickle once the contact handshake completes. If the cell recovers, it should power the radio normally once it reaches approximately 7.2V.
