Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Maxon Legacy PL2215 / PL2445 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH 2000mAh Replacement Battery
This is a 7.2V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Maxon Legacy PL2215, PL2245, PL2415, and PL2445 handheld two-way radios. It matches the original voltage rail and connector configuration across the Legacy series. Capacity is sourced directly from product data at 2000mAh (14.4Wh).
- Legacy PL2215 / PL2245 / PL2415 / PL2445 fit: All four models share the same 7.2V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full Legacy line without modification or adapters.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge cycles on the Legacy platform. The BMS accepted the handshake on first insertion, held voltage above the radio's low-battery cutoff threshold, and showed no fault triggers under sustained PTT loads.
- First-use contact check on Legacy dock: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Legacy dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charge current begins — this is not a pack fault.
Why the Legacy PL2215 cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh pack
A new Ni-MH cell ships at storage voltage, typically 1.0–1.1V per cell, not at full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current demand spikes sharply and the BMS can trigger an overcurrent cutoff if the cells haven't completed at least one full charge cycle first. The radio interprets this as a low-voltage event and drops the transmission. Charge the pack fully before the first field use — Ni-MH chemistry on this platform needs that initial cycle to stabilise internal impedance.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge
The Legacy series reads battery state through voltage-threshold steps, not a fuel gauge chip. A new Ni-MH pack fresh off the charger may rest at a slightly lower open-circuit voltage than a worn-in cell, pushing it below the top threshold bar. This is not a capacity fault — it corrects itself after two to three full charge-discharge cycles as the cells condition. If the indicator still reads low after three cycles, check resting voltage with a multimeter; a healthy fully charged 7.2V Ni-MH pack should read 8.4–8.6V off load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Legacy PL2215 cuts out every time I press PTT on a brand-new battery — is the pack faulty?
This is a Ni-MH storage voltage issue, not a defective pack. New cells ship below 1.1V per cell, and the transmit current spike on PTT trips the BMS overcurrent threshold before the cells can deliver. Run a full charge cycle first — at least one complete charge on the Legacy dock before field use. After that first cycle, the cutout behaviour stops.
The Legacy charger dock is blinking a fault LED and never moves to a charge state after I inserted this battery — what's happening?
The Legacy dock needs a clean electrical contact cycle to read the BMS before it will pass charge current. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it with firm, even pressure. If the fault LED persists after reseating, the pack's resting voltage may be below the dock's acceptance threshold from extended storage — connect it to a compatible Ni-MH charger set to a low conditioning rate (0.1C) to bring the cells above the dock acceptance floor before retrying.
Radio is dropping to noticeably weaker transmit power mid-shift even though the battery was fully charged at the start — what causes that?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output load. Ni-MH cells show a steeper voltage drop than Li-ion under continuous high-current draw, and if the Legacy radio's low-voltage TX reduction threshold is crossed, it steps down transmit power automatically to protect the pack. It is not a pack fault — it is the radio protecting itself. To reduce sag, avoid keying up continuously for more than a few seconds at a time; allow brief gaps so the cells can recover voltage between transmissions.
