Fits BLU Life 8 XL and L290U models replacing OEM battery part number C836404292L.
Voltage is 3.8V at 3000mAh capacity, delivering 11.4Wh total energy for standard daily use cycles.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with standard micro-tab locking — orientation marked on the cell casing.
We bench-tested the BMS on a Life 8 XL platform; fuel gauge IC accepted handshake and showed stable voltage curve under modem load.
On first charge after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates to the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BLU Life 8 XL / L290U — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (C836404292L)

This 3.8V, 3000mAh (11.4Wh) lithium-polymer cell replaces the original C836404292L battery in the BLU Life 8 XL and L290U smartphones. It slots into the same battery bay and connects to the same charge IC and fuel gauge circuit. Dimensions are 83.05 × 63.90 × 4.20mm — verify yours before ordering.

  • Life 8 XL and L290U fit: Both model variants share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both. The C836404292L part number appears on both original units.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the L290U platform. The BMS accepted the full charge cycle without tripping overcurrent protection, and the fuel gauge IC tracked state of charge without flagging a mismatch fault.
  • First-cycle fast charge note: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging is applied to an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the BLU Life 8 XL after a cell swap

A new lithium-polymer cell has a slightly different voltage-versus-capacity curve than the worn cell the fuel gauge IC was calibrated to. When the phone hits a load spike — modem transmit, screen brightness burst — the cell voltage drops faster than the IC expects and the protection circuit cuts output before the displayed percentage reaches zero. This is a calibration gap, not a faulty battery. Run two full discharge-charge cycles without fast charging and the coulomb counter will map the new curve accurately.

Phone won't power on after the replacement cell sat in storage

Lithium-polymer cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage has dropped below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks all charge current to prevent cell damage. The phone will show no charge indicator and will not respond to the power button. Connect the phone to a wall adapter — not a USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage climbs above the BMS re-enable threshold, typically around 2.8–3.0V, at which point normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The BLU Life 8 XL battery percentage jumps around erratically after I put in the new cell — is it broken?

The fuel gauge IC in the L290U stores a learned discharge curve from the old cell. When a new cell goes in, the coulomb counter references the wrong curve and reports inaccurate state of charge. Run two complete discharge-charge cycles at standard charge rate with fast charging disabled. After those cycles the IC recalibrates to the new cell and percentage readings stabilise.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after replacing the battery — what happened?

On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC runs a conservative handshake with the new BMS before enabling high-current mode. Some units stay in standard charge mode through the entire first cycle as a protection measure. Unplug, let the phone discharge to around 15%, then reconnect to a wall adapter. Fast charge protocol typically re-engages from the second cycle onward once the BMS has completed its initial calibration pass.

The phone feels warm near the battery while charging — is that normal with a new lithium-polymer cell?

A new lithium-polymer cell starts with slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. The charge IC pushes current into higher resistance during early cycles, which generates more heat than you'd see with the worn original. Surface temperature at the back of the phone should stay below 40°C. If it feels hot to the touch or the phone throttles performance during charging, run the first two cycles at standard charge rate and check that no third-party cable is restricting the charge IC's voltage negotiation.
