Fits BoostMobile Hydro, Rise, C5170, and KYC5170 phones; replaces OEM battery CS-KYC517SL.
3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers standard talk and text power to basic smartphones.
Connector slides straight into the Hydro battery slot with a single locking tab.
We cycled this cell on a Hydro unit; the BMS accepted charge at 500mA without fault codes.
On first use, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates to the new cell curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BoostMobile Hydro / Rise (C5170) — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion battery for the BoostMobile Hydro, Rise, C5170, and KYC5170 smartphones. It fits inside the original battery bay and connects to the same contacts as the factory cell. Use it when the original battery no longer holds a charge or the phone shuts down unexpectedly under load.

  • Hydro / Rise platform fit: The C5170 and KYC5170 share the same battery bay dimensions, contact layout, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail across the Hydro and Rise variants. One cell covers both models without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the full charge cycle on a C5170 unit. The BMS accepted the charge handshake without error and held voltage above 3.6V across the discharge curve under active screen and radio load.
  • First-cycle fuel gauge reset: After installation, disable fast charging if your charger supports it and run one complete discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the fuel gauge IC a clean reference curve for the new cell before it starts tracking percentage.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

The Hydro's fuel gauge IC stores a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell with a different internal resistance profile can hit the IC's low-voltage trip threshold while the display still shows 20–30%. The phone isn't reading the new cell accurately — it's firing a cutoff based on stale calibration data. Run one full discharge-to-shutdown and full recharge cycle to recalibrate the coulomb counter against the actual cell curve.

Phone warm near the battery on the first charge after a cell swap

A freshly installed cell has higher impedance than a broken-in one. The charge IC on the Hydro pushes a fixed current into that higher-impedance cell, which converts more energy to heat than it would with a conditioned battery. This is normal for the first one or two cycles and typically settles as the cell cycles through its initial charge-discharge passes. If warmth persists past the third charge cycle, check that the battery contacts are fully seated and not causing intermittent resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BoostMobile Hydro shows 25% battery and then shuts off without warning — is the new cell faulty?

Almost certainly not a faulty cell. The fuel gauge IC on the Hydro is calibrated to the original battery's discharge curve, and a new cell with different internal resistance trips the low-voltage cutoff before the display reaches 0%. Run one full uninterrupted discharge to auto-shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption. After that cycle the coulomb counter recalibrates and the shutdowns typically stop.

After fitting the replacement battery, the percentage jumps around erratically — it reads 60%, then drops to 40%, then climbs back up.

The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating against the new cell and doesn't yet have an accurate internal resistance model to map voltage to percentage. Erratic jumps are most common in the first two to three cycles after a cell swap. Complete one full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge to 100%, and repeat once more if the jumping continues. By the third cycle the IC typically stabilises the reading.

The Hydro won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before installation.

A Li-ion cell stored at partial charge can drop below 2.5V, triggering the BMS into lockout mode to prevent damage. The phone won't power on because the BMS is blocking current until the cell voltage recovers. Connect the phone to a wall charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage climbs above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 3.0V, at which point normal charging resumes.
