Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kyocera Hydro / Rise C5170 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SCP-49LBPS)
This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original battery in the Kyocera Hydro, Rise, and C5170 series smartphones. It matches OEM part numbers SCP-49LBPS, SCP-46LBPS, and 5AATXBT052GEA. Physical dimensions are 65.10 × 43.90 × 4.80mm — confirm yours before installing.
- Hydro / Rise C5170 platform fit: These models share the same removable battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol across the C5170 and KYC5170 variants. One cell covers the full range listed in compatibility.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the C5170 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge IC negotiated correctly at standard 5V input. No thermal event or cutoff anomaly was recorded.
- Fuel gauge recalibration tip: On first use after installation, run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before using the phone heavily. This lets the coulomb counter recalibrate its baseline against the new cell's actual discharge curve — skip this and percentage readings will drift.
Why the Hydro reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The Hydro's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches actual cell chemistry or internal resistance. The gauge reads voltage and applies the old curve, so it reports numbers that don't reflect real charge state. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a complete uninterrupted charge resets the coulomb counter and syncs the IC to the new cell's actual behaviour.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the load threshold under peak current draw — typically when the modem fires at full power during a call or data burst. The phone's OS reads 25% capacity, but the cell cannot hold voltage above the BMS cutoff floor under that load spike. It's not a defective battery — it's an uncalibrated fuel gauge mapping the wrong voltage-to-percentage curve onto the new cell. Run one full discharge cycle to let the gauge learn the actual voltage cliff on this cell, which sits around 3.4–3.5V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions
The phone won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?
Likely not dead — the BMS has tripped into lockout because cell voltage dropped below 2.5V during storage. Connect the phone to a wall charger (not a PC USB port) and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC needs to trickle current into the cell to bring voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold before the phone will boot. If the charging LED doesn't show any sign of life after 30 minutes on a known-good adapter, try a different cable first.
The battery percentage jumps around erratically — showing 60%, then suddenly 80%, then dropping to 45% without any use.
The fuel gauge IC is still running off the discharge curve it learned from the old cell. The new cell has different internal resistance and a slightly different voltage-to-capacity slope, so the gauge misreads voltage spikes and drops as large percentage swings. Do one full uninterrupted discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge straight to 100% without unplugging early. After that single calibration cycle, the coulomb counter recalculates its reference points and the percentage readings stabilise.
Fast charging stopped working after I put in the replacement battery — the phone just charges slowly now.
On the first cycle with a new cell, the charge IC sometimes defaults to standard 5V/1A input and won't negotiate the faster charging protocol until the BMS has completed one full charge cycle and confirmed cell health data. Charge the phone fully once at whatever rate it accepts, then disconnect and reconnect the charger — the protocol handshake typically re-enables after that initial cycle. If fast charge still doesn't engage, check that you're using the original Kyocera wall adapter, as third-party chargers often don't trigger the proprietary handshake on this platform.
