Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CAT S40 — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (458002-S40)
This 3.8V, 2900mAh lithium-polymer cell is a direct swap for the original 458002-S40 battery in the CAT S40 rugged smartphone. It restores power to calls, messaging, and applications when the original cell has degraded or failed to hold charge. Capacity figures come from the product data — 2900mAh / 11.02Wh.
- CAT S40 fitment: The S40 uses a specific connector pinout and BMS handshake tied to the 458002-S40 cell. This replacement matches that pinout and voltage rail so the phone's charge IC accepts the cell without triggering a protection fault on startup.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the S40 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without lockout, the charge IC ramped normally, and the fuel gauge IC began tracking state-of-charge within the first cycle.
- First-cycle fast charge hold-off: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.
Why the CAT S40 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The S40's fuel gauge IC builds its state-of-charge model against the original cell's impedance and discharge curve. When you fit a new cell, the IC is still referencing the old degraded curve, so the percentage it reports drifts from the cell's actual charge level. This mismatch shows up as jumpy readings or a percentage that doesn't move for long stretches, then drops suddenly. One full discharge down to automatic shutdown followed by a full charge resets the coulomb counter and lets the IC map the new cell correctly.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the modem or display draws a high-current burst and the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge has finished calibrating. The gauge still shows 20–30%, but the cell voltage has already sagged below 3.4V under load. It's not a faulty cell — it's the IC working from a mismatched discharge model. Complete one full calibration cycle and the shutdowns stop. If the problem persists past two full cycles, check that the charge IC is reaching 4.2V at end of charge before disconnecting.

Frequently Asked Questions
The CAT S40 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for months — is it dead?
It's almost certainly a BMS lockout from deep discharge. When a lithium-polymer cell drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, the BMS disconnects the output rail to prevent damage. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until the BMS releases; the phone should then boot normally.
Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in the replacement battery — the phone just slow-charges now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the S40's charge IC can default to a lower current profile until it verifies the new cell's BMS response. This is normal behaviour, not a fault. Run one complete slow charge to 100%, then discharge fully to shutdown, then reconnect to a fast charger. The IC renegotiates the charge rate once it has a baseline reading from the new cell. If fast charging still doesn't resume after that cycle, check the USB-C port pins for debris.
The S40 feels noticeably warm near the back panel while charging the new battery — should I be concerned?
A new lithium-polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates more heat during the first few charge cycles. Mild warmth at the back panel is normal and fades as the cell's impedance drops after two or three full cycles. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or the charging indicator cuts out repeatedly, remove the phone from the charger and let it cool to room temperature before reconnecting. Sustained heat that doesn't reduce after three cycles points to a charge IC issue, not the cell.
