Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Clover C401U / FLEX — 7.6V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (MPPCLOYJ4)
This 7.6V, 2100mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original cell in the Clover C401U and FLEX portable payment terminals. It matches the OEM voltage rail, connector, and BMS communication protocol used on both models. Capacity figure is taken directly from product specifications — 15.96Wh total.
- C401U and FLEX compatibility: Both terminals share the same battery bay format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake sequence. A single cell covers both models without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through full charge and discharge on a C401U unit. The BMS accepted the cell on first boot, voltage held steady at 7.6V under combined display, wireless, and printer load, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- First-deployment cycle on a live terminal: After installation, run at least one complete transaction — including receipt print — before putting the terminal into service. The Clover charge IC maps cell capacity during normal operation and requires a full power cycle to report the charge indicator accurately on the screen.
Why the C401U reboots mid-transaction after a battery swap
The receipt printer motor draws a sharp current spike at the moment it fires — typically lasting under a second but large enough to trip the BMS overcurrent threshold on a new cell that has not yet completed a full charge cycle. The BMS interprets that spike as a fault and cuts output voltage, which forces a hard reboot. Charging the battery to 100% before first use and completing one full transaction cycle lets the BMS calibrate its overcurrent window to the terminal's actual load profile. After that initial cycle, mid-transaction reboots caused by this issue stop.
Terminal not powering on after sitting unused in storage
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge during storage, and if the voltage drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a deep-discharge lockout state and will not pass current to the terminal. The terminal shows no response — no boot screen, no charging indicator — which looks identical to a dead battery but is actually a recoverable condition. Connect the terminal to its original charger and leave it undisturbed for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC applies a low-current pre-charge to bring the cell voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 3.0V, at which point normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Clover FLEX shows the battery stuck at 99% and never reaches full charge — is the battery faulty?
No. A new Li-Polymer cell starts in top-off mode, where the charge IC applies a low trickle current to bring the cell to its exact full-charge voltage before reporting 100%. This can hold the indicator at 99% for 30–60 minutes on the first charge cycle. Let the terminal sit on the charger without interruption through at least one complete charge. The indicator will step to 100% once the charge IC confirms the cell has reached its target voltage — around 8.7V at full for a 7.6V nominal cell.
The terminal feels noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is that a battery problem?
Warmth during heavy use is normal for this terminal class. The C401U and FLEX combine a wireless radio, touchscreen backlight, and thermal receipt printer drawing from a single small cell simultaneously. That combined load generates heat at both the cell and the charge management IC. If the terminal becomes hot enough to throttle or shut down, check that the receipt paper roll is not jammed — a stalled printer motor holds a sustained high current draw rather than the brief spike of a normal print cycle, which significantly increases heat output. A freely running printer resolves the thermal spike at its source.
After installing this battery, the terminal goes through the Clover boot animation but restarts repeatedly before reaching the home screen — what is causing that?
This is a BMS handshake timing issue. The Clover PCI boot sequence draws a rising current load as it initialises the wireless radio and payment security module, and if the BMS has not yet accepted the new cell's communication parameters, it can interpret that load ramp as a fault and cut power partway through boot. Charge the battery fully before attempting to boot the terminal, then hold the power button for a clean cold start rather than a resume. One complete boot-to-home-screen cycle is usually enough for the BMS to register the cell and allow normal operation on all subsequent starts.
