Fits Cub Cadet XR1 500 lawn mower; replaces OEM battery BAT9101A and MRK9200A.
10.8V and 10400mAh capacity delivers full blade torque through thick grass and wet conditions.
Slide-lock connector seats into the mower's vertical battery bay with brass contact alignment tabs.
We bench-tested the pack under full blade load; BMS held steady through dense turf without nuisance cutoff.
Before first spring use, bring this pack indoors overnight if outdoor temps are below 10°C — cold Li-ion raises internal resistance and can trip the motor inrush cutoff on the blade motor circuit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cub Cadet XR1 500 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BAT9101A)

This is a 10.8V, 10400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Cub Cadet XR1 500 cordless walk-behind mower. It slots into the same bay as the original BAT9101A and MRK9200A packs. If your original battery no longer holds charge or the mower shuts down mid-cut, this is the direct swap.

  • XR1 500 platform fit: The XR1 500 uses a 10.8V nominal rail with a BMS handshake that reads pack state before allowing blade motor startup. Both OEM part numbers — BAT9101A and MRK9200A — share this connector and handshake protocol, so this replacement communicates correctly with the mower's control board.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through simulated blade-start inrush cycles and sustained mid-load draws. The BMS held protection thresholds consistent with OEM spec — no nuisance trips under normal cutting conditions on a full, room-temperature charge.
  • Cold-weather pre-use tip: Before your first mow of the season, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells carry higher internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current on startup can trip the BMS in a cold pack before the cells have warmed up.

BMS cutoff on thick-grass and wet-grass blade load

The XR1 500 blade motor draws significantly more current through dense or wet grass than on a dry, short lawn. When that draw spikes above the BMS protection threshold — typically from a sudden slug of thick grass — the pack cuts power to protect the cells. This is not a battery fault; it is the BMS doing its job. Let the mower sit for 30 seconds to allow the BMS to reset, then resume at a slower walking pace through the heavy section. If cutoffs repeat, check that blade height is set one notch higher than the grass requires.

Charger showing a fault light after the mower sat all winter

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly over months. A pack stored in an unheated garage from October through spring can drop below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 9V for a 10.8V pack. When the charger sees a pack below that threshold, it flags a fault and refuses to charge. Some OEM chargers include a recovery or "wake" mode; if yours does, hold the recovery button for five seconds with the battery connected. If no wake mode exists and cell voltage reads above 8.5V on a multimeter across the terminals, a compatible third-party charger with a Li-ion recovery function can bring the pack back up to acceptance voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My XR1 500 cuts out halfway through a row, then starts again after a minute — is the battery faulty?

That pattern is thermal protection, not a defective cell. The blade motor generates heat under sustained load, and when internal pack temperature hits the BMS cutoff threshold, it shuts down until the cells cool. Allow a five-minute rest with the battery removed from the mower, then resume. If it happens every row, reduce the cutting height by one notch to lower the motor load.

The new battery feels noticeably warmer than my old one during the first few cuts — should I be concerned?

New Li-ion cells run slightly warmer for the first four to five charge-discharge cycles while the chemistry stabilises. This is normal conditioning behaviour, not a fault. Surface temperature should stay below 45°C to the touch; anything hotter than that warrants stopping the cut and checking that the battery contacts are fully seated and clean. After five full cycles, operating temperature should match what you experienced with the original pack.

The mower starts and runs fine in summer, but on the first cold morning of autumn it bogs down and barely turns the blade — what's happening?

Li-ion capacity drops measurably below 10°C because cold cells have higher internal resistance, which reduces the current they can deliver to the blade motor. The mower is not damaged and the battery is not failing. Bring the battery indoors the night before use and let it reach room temperature — at 20°C the pack will deliver its full 10400mAh rated capacity and the blade motor will draw current normally. If morning temperatures are consistently below 5°C, let the battery warm for at least two hours before fitting it.
