Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Inspiron 15RV / 15 3521 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (MR90Y)
This 11.1V, 4400mAh (48.84Wh) Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in Dell Inspiron 15RV and Inspiron 15 3521 series laptops. It covers a wide range of OEM part numbers including XCMRD, T1G4M, YGMTN, and 312-1390, among others. Fit the battery, reconnect AC, and let the BIOS complete a learn cycle before trusting the fuel gauge.
- Inspiron 15RV and 3521 series fit: These models share the same 11.1V three-cell connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. Dell's EC firmware reads EEPROM data from the battery to register it — the same cell architecture fits all variants in this range without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an Inspiron 15 3521 under sustained CPU and display load. The BMS held voltage above the 10.5V cutoff threshold through full discharge, and charge termination triggered cleanly at capacity without overrun.
- BIOS learn cycle after install: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge down to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on these Dell models.
BIOS reporting poor battery health after replacing the cell
Dell's BIOS reads cycle count, rated capacity, and health data from the battery's EEPROM, not from live cell measurements. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data doesn't match what the system last recorded, so the BIOS flags it as degraded. This isn't a fault with the replacement — it's a mismatch between stored and live data. Run the full learn cycle described above and the health status will update within two to three charge cycles.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
The fuel gauge IC on these Dell boards estimates remaining charge based on voltage curves mapped to the old cell. A new cell has a steeper voltage drop under combined CPU and display load than the calibration expects, so the system hits the emergency shutdown threshold while the gauge still reads 20–30%. This isn't a faulty battery — it's an uncalibrated gauge. Complete two full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles; the IC recalibrates its curve and the shutdowns stop. After calibration, the cutoff should align with a cell voltage of approximately 10.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dell Inspiron shows the replacement battery as "unknown" or 0% in Windows — what's wrong?
The Windows fuel gauge IC pulls its data from EEPROM stored on the old cell; the new cell's EEPROM looks unfamiliar, so the OS can't read state-of-charge and reports 0% or "unknown." This isn't a hardware fault. Plug in AC, let it charge uninterrupted to 100%, then fully discharge to hibernate-cutoff — repeat this twice and the gauge IC maps correctly to the new cell's voltage curve.
Dell BIOS shows the wrong Wh rating for this battery — it says 45Wh but the cell is rated 48.84Wh. Is something wrong?
The BIOS reads the Wh value from the battery's EEPROM, which is written at the factory based on the rated cell chemistry at that time. A small difference between EEPROM-declared Wh and the actual measured capacity is normal when cells are sourced from a different production batch. The discrepancy doesn't affect charging or cutoff behaviour — the BMS still manages charge termination and discharge cutoff against actual cell voltage, not the EEPROM figure.
The new battery stops charging at 80% and won't go higher — is the cell defective?
On many Dell Inspiron models, the BIOS includes a firmware-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. This setting is active by default on some units and has nothing to do with the replacement cell. Open Dell Power Manager (or Dell Command | Power Manager if installed), go to Battery Settings, and switch the charge mode from "Primarily AC" or "Custom" to "Standard" — charging will then proceed to 100%.
