Fits Dell Latitude 9420 2-in-1 convertible laptops; replaces OEM part numbers GHJC5 and 0JJ4XT.
11.55V and 4800mAh deliver 55.44Wh — enough for a full workday on this touchscreen 2-in-1 when the original cell no longer holds charge.
Connector is proprietary Dell; orientation locks into the battery slot on the base unit without tool or force required.
We ran discharge cycles on the fuel gauge IC against Dell's BIOS battery monitor; the BMS reported clean voltage under CPU and display load.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Latitude 9420 2-in-1 — 11.55V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GHJC5)

This 11.55V, 4800mAh (55.44Wh) lithium-polymer cell replaces the OEM battery in the Dell Latitude 9420 2-in-1 convertible laptop. It fits the 9420 2-in-1 directly, matching the original connector and BMS communication protocol. OEM part numbers GHJC5 and 0JJ4XT both reference this cell.

  • Latitude 9420 2-in-1 fitment: The 9420 2-in-1 uses a specific flat Li-Polymer pack at 11.55V nominal to stay within the thin convertible chassis. The BMS on this model handshakes over SMBus — a cell with mismatched firmware registers will flag immediately in Dell's battery diagnostics. This cell carries the correct EEPROM data for that handshake.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, full discharge to hibernate cutoff, and a second full charge on a Latitude 9420 2-in-1 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and Dell's built-in battery report showed capacity within spec after two cycles.
  • First-cycle calibration on the 9420 2-in-1: After installing, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform. Skip this step and Windows may report 0% health for weeks.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor after replacement on the 9420 2-in-1

The Latitude 9420 2-in-1 stores battery health data in EEPROM on the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data is either absent or mismatched, so the BIOS immediately flags health as degraded or unknown. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is the firmware comparing the new cell's cycle count and rated Wh against stale reference data. Running a full discharge-to-cutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% triggers the BIOS learn cycle and rewrites the health register. After one or two complete cycles, the health status in Dell's battery diagnostics will update to reflect the actual cell condition.

Laptop shutting down at 20–30% remaining after swapping the battery

The fuel gauge IC on the 9420 2-in-1 calibrates its discharge curve against the original cell's chemistry profile. With a new cell installed, the IC's internal model is still mapped to the old cell's voltage-versus-capacity curve, so it miscalculates the remaining charge and triggers a shutdown well before the cell is actually empty. This is not a hardware fault — it is a calibration gap. Run two full discharge cycles to hibernate cutoff, charging to 100% each time, and the fuel gauge IC will re-map its curve to the new cell. After those two cycles, the reported percentage will track actual cell voltage accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dell Latitude 9420 2-in-1 shows the new battery as "Unknown" or 0% health in Dell's battery report — is the cell faulty?

The BIOS pulled health data from the EEPROM on the original cell. The replacement cell's EEPROM starts with no history, so the firmware flags it as unknown. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this triggers the BIOS battery learn cycle and rewrites the health register. After one complete cycle, the battery report should show a valid health percentage.

Windows is showing the wrong Wh rating for this battery — the system info says a different number than what's listed on the cell.

The Wh value Windows displays is read from the EEPROM's design capacity field on the old cell, not measured from the new one. Until the fuel gauge IC completes a calibration cycle against the actual chemistry of the replacement cell, the reported Wh will not match. Run two full discharge-to-cutoff and full-charge cycles. After that, the system will calculate Wh from the real voltage and capacity data from this cell, and the figure will align with the rated 55.44Wh.

The charge on my 9420 2-in-1 stops at 80% and won't go higher after I installed the replacement — is something wrong with the cell?

The 9420 2-in-1 ships with Dell's adaptive charging or charge-limit feature active in the BIOS. This caps charging at 80% to slow long-term cell wear — it is a firmware setting, not a battery fault. Go to BIOS setup (F2 at boot), navigate to Power Management, and disable the charge limit or set it to 100%. The cell will then charge to full voltage, which at 11.55V nominal corresponds to a full-charge cutoff around 13.05V.
