Dopod S300 / 710 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (STAR160)
This is a 3.7V, 850mAh Li-ion cell built to the STAR160 specification. It fits the Dopod S300 and 710 smartphones. The cell measures 44.97 × 37.16 × 5.44mm and slots into the same bay as the original unit.
- S300 and 710 platform fit: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, voltage rail, and connector pinout. The STAR160 part number covers both, so one cell works across the pair without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge-discharge cycle on an S300 unit. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on the first connection and held voltage within spec across the full discharge curve.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first installation, disable fast charging if your charger supports it and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging begins.
Why the S300 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The S300's fuel gauge IC stores a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the IC has no reference data for the new cell's internal resistance or capacity profile. Until it logs a full cycle, the percentage readout is an estimate based on stale data. One complete discharge to device shutoff followed by a full charge resets the coulomb counter and gives the IC a clean reference curve to work from.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% remaining on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops below what the modem or display load can sustain, even though the fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. On a fresh cell with an uncalibrated IC, the percentage shown and the actual cell voltage are out of sync. The phone's protection circuit cuts power at a real voltage floor — typically around 3.2V — regardless of what the gauge displays. Run one full discharge cycle to let the IC anchor its low-voltage threshold to the new cell's actual characteristics.

My Dopod S300 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — what's happening?
If the cell discharged below approximately 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters a lockout state and blocks normal charging to protect the cell. Connect the phone to a low-current charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power it on. Most BMS circuits will accept a trickle charge at that threshold and release the lockout once the cell climbs back above 2.8V. If the charge LED shows no activity after 45 minutes, the cell has discharged too far for recovery and will need replacement.
The battery percentage on my S300 jumps around erratically — goes from 60% straight to 35% without warning. Is the cell faulty?
The cell is likely fine — the fuel gauge IC is recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve. The original calibration data mapped a different cell's internal resistance profile, so voltage readings translate into inaccurate percentage estimates until the IC builds new reference data. Run two complete discharge-charge cycles at standard charge rate and the jumping should stabilise as the coulomb counter locks onto the new curve.
The S300 feels warm near the battery compartment during the first few charges — is that normal with a new cell?
A new Li-ion cell typically has slightly higher internal impedance than a well-cycled cell, which means the charge IC dissipates a little more heat during the constant-current phase. This is normal for the first two to three charge cycles and should reduce noticeably once the cell is conditioned. If the phone feels hot to the touch — not just warm — or the charge IC shuts down mid-cycle, stop charging and check that the battery contacts are seated flat with no debris on the connector pads.
