Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Orange SPV F600 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (STAR160)
This is a 3.7V 850mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Orange SPV F600 Windows Mobile smartphone. It fits the original STAR160 battery slot and restores power to devices where the original cell has degraded or failed completely. Voltage and form factor match the OEM specification — dimensions are 44.97 × 37.16 × 5.44mm.
- SPV F600 fit confirmation: The F600 uses a dedicated battery bay with a three-contact interface. This cell matches that contact layout and the 3.7V nominal rail the device's power management IC expects. No modification needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the F600 platform. The BMS accepted charge from the device's internal charge controller without error flags, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after install: The SPV F600's fuel gauge IC holds a charge curve based on the old cell. After fitting this battery, run one complete discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the IC a fresh reference point against the new cell's actual discharge profile.
Why the SPV F600 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The F600 uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks capacity by coulomb counting against a stored discharge curve learned from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches the actual cell behaviour, so the reported percentage drifts. The gauge may show 30% and cut out, or read 100% while still on a partial charge. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge cycle forces the IC to rewrite its reference curve against the new cell. After that cycle, percentage readings stabilise.
Sudden shutdown at 15–25% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under load — typically when the modem transmits or the screen backlight peaks — faster than the fuel gauge predicted. The F600's power management IC shuts the device down before the reported percentage reaches zero. The root cause is a voltage cliff: at low state of charge, even a brief current spike pulls cell voltage below the protection threshold. To confirm this is the cause and not a fault, charge the device to 100% and check whether the shutdowns still occur below 20%. If they stop after a full recalibration cycle, the fuel gauge was the issue, not the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Orange SPV F600 won't turn on at all after fitting the new battery — is the cell dead?
Probably not. If the replacement cell sat in storage for a while, its voltage may have dropped below 2.5V per cell — the threshold where the BMS locks out to prevent damage. The F600's charge circuit can still wake a locked-out cell, but it needs a few minutes connected to a charger before the BMS releases and allows normal charging to begin. Leave it on charge for 15–20 minutes without attempting to power on, then try booting. If the BMS recovers, the charge indicator will activate and the device will start normally.
The battery percentage on my SPV F600 jumps around erratically — it went from 60% to 10% in minutes.
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar cell. The coulomb counter in the F600 was trained on the original battery's discharge curve, and the new cell's internal resistance profile is different enough to throw off the readings. Run one complete discharge — use the phone normally until it shuts itself off — then charge it to 100% without interruption. That single cycle gives the IC a clean reference and the percentage readings will settle. Do not top up mid-cycle during this recalibration run.
The SPV F600 feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — is that normal?
Some warmth is expected on the first few charge cycles. A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in one, so the charge IC pushes slightly more voltage to overcome it, which generates more heat than usual. This reduces after two or three full cycles as the cell's impedance drops. If the device becomes too hot to hold comfortably or the back panel feels hot rather than warm, disconnect the charger and let it cool before resuming — the charge IC in the F600 does not have aggressive thermal throttling. Check that the battery contacts are clean and seated flat against the device terminals.
