Fits Dyson DC61, DC62, DC58 and 34+ models; replaces OEM part numbers 965874-02, 965874-01, 965874-03, 967810-02, 967810-03, 967810-13, 967810-21, 967810-23, 205794-01/04, and 209472-01.
21.6V lithium-ion at 2500mAh delivers the voltage your motor needs for consistent brush torque across carpet and hard floors without mid-cycle sag.
Slides into the battery slot with a forward push until the locking tab clicks — Dyson uses a keyed connector that prevents reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in a DC61 motor load rig; BMS accepted the handshake on first insertion and held 21.6V under sustained suction draw without nuisance cutoff.
Remove the battery from the dock immediately after charging to full—Dyson vacuums left on continuous dock charge lose capacity faster than units charged only when depleted.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson DC61 / DC62 Series — 21.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (965874-02)

This 21.6V 2500mAh (54Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces the factory cell in the Dyson DC61, DC62, DC58, DC62 Animal, and over 30 additional Dyson cordless stick vacuum models. It uses OEM part numbers 965874-02, 205794-01/04, 967810-02, and related variants. When the original cell loses capacity after repeated charge cycles, this replacement restores the motor to its rated operating voltage.

  • DC61 / DC62 platform compatibility: These models share a common 21.6V battery rail, connector format, and BMS communication protocol. A single cell design covers the full range because Dyson kept the power architecture consistent across this vacuum generation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on a DC62 motor unit. The BMS held the 21.6V rail stable under sustained motor load and triggered overcurrent protection correctly when the suction path was deliberately blocked.
  • Dock charging habit on DC61 / DC62 vacuums: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. These vacuums draw a trickle charge continuously when docked, which accelerates capacity fade in the lithium cells. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock between uses.

Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor draws more current than the BMS expects — usually caused by a partially blocked filter or a restricted suction path, not a failing battery. The motor works harder against the blockage, voltage sag increases, and the BMS reads an apparent low-power condition before the cell is actually depleted. Wash the filter and let it dry for 24 hours before concluding the battery is at fault. If suction recovers after a clean filter, the cell is fine.

Motor cuts out mid-clean and restarts after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained restricted airflow forces the motor to pull above its rated current, the BMS cuts power to protect the cell, then resets once the surge clears. It will keep happening if the restriction is still there. Check the bin, the filter, and the inlet path for blockages — clear the restriction and the cutouts stop. If the motor still trips on an unobstructed path, measure the pack voltage under load; it should hold above 18V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DC62 has noticeably shorter runtime than when it was new — is that the filter or the battery?

A clogged filter makes the motor draw more current than rated, which depletes the cell faster and mimics battery fade. Wash the filter, let it dry fully for 24 hours, and run a full charge cycle before deciding the battery is the problem. If runtime is still short after a clean filter on a fully charged cell, the original battery has degraded and replacement will restore performance. A healthy 21.6V pack should hold above 19V at rest after a full charge.

I left my DC61 on the dock for weeks and now it barely runs — did I ruin the replacement battery too?

Continuous dock charging applies a trickle current to the lithium cells even when full, and over weeks this degrades capacity in the pack. The same damage applies to any replacement cell left on permanent dock charge. Remove the vacuum from the dock once the charge indicator shows full, and only redock when the cell is depleted. This one habit significantly slows capacity fade on the new battery.

The DC61 won't charge at all after I installed the replacement battery — charger light stays off.

The Dyson charger handshakes with the battery BMS before starting a charge cycle — if the BMS does not respond, the charger stays dark. First, seat the battery firmly and check that the contacts are clean and dry. If the light still does not come on, the cell may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold from deep discharge during storage; leave the charger connected for 20 minutes and check again, as some BMS units recover from a low-voltage lock after a brief trickle. If there is still no response after 20 minutes, verify the charger output is 21.6–22V DC before ruling out the charger itself.
