Fits Vileda 488A and A3 cordless vacuum cleaners, replacing the original 14.4V Ni-MH battery pack.
14.4V and 4000mAh (57.6Wh) — this capacity matches the OEM pack; motor draws full current under suction load without sag.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a positive locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion on the handheld body.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on the Vileda charger; BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and held voltage steady under sustained motor draw.
Do not leave the vacuum on the charging dock permanently — continuous trickle charge causes Ni-MH capacity fade; charge to full and remove immediately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vileda 488A / A3 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V Ni-MH battery rated at 4000mAh (57.6Wh), built to fit the Vileda 488A and A3 cordless vacuum cleaners. It slots into the same bay as the original cell and connects to the existing charger circuit. Order this when the original battery no longer holds a useful charge or fails to power the motor at full suction.

  • 488A and A3 compatibility: Both models run the same 14.4V motor rail, use the same physical battery housing, and share an identical connector pinout — one cell fits both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through repeated discharge loads matching the 488A motor draw. The BMS held stable voltage delivery across the full discharge curve and triggered protection correctly at the low-voltage threshold.
  • Dock charging habit on the 488A: Do not leave the 488A sitting on the charging dock continuously. Ni-MH cells degrade faster under constant trickle charge than from regular charge-and-remove cycling. Charge until full, then lift the unit off the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The 488A's motor draws harder when the filter is partially blocked — airflow restriction forces the motor to work against back-pressure, pulling more current than the battery's rated output anticipates. This causes the cell voltage to sag under load even when charge state looks healthy. The result is reduced suction that feels like a dying battery but is actually a restricted airflow problem. Clean or replace the filter first; if suction restores, the battery is fine.

Motor cuts out mid-clean then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the vacuum runs against a blockage or a heavily loaded carpet with a restricted filter, current draw spikes past the BMS protection threshold and the cell disconnects to prevent damage. After a brief pause the BMS resets and the motor runs again. Clear the blockage, check the filter, and verify the intake path is unobstructed — if the cut-outs stop, the battery and BMS are functioning correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vileda 488A loses suction well before the battery light shows low — is this a battery fault or something else?

Most of the time this is a restricted filter, not the battery. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to pull more current than normal, causing voltage to sag under load even when the cell is reasonably charged — the result feels like a weak battery but the charge level is fine. Clean the filter and check the intake path for blockages first. If suction returns to normal after that, the battery is not the problem.

The replacement battery charges fully but the vacuum's runtime is noticeably shorter than it used to be — what causes that?

A partially blocked filter is the most common cause — it makes the motor work harder, drawing more current per pass and depleting the cell faster than rated. Check and clean the filter before assuming the new cell is underperforming. If the filter is clear and runtime is still short, verify the charger is completing a full charge cycle and not cutting off early — a fully charged 14.4V Ni-MH pack should read close to 16.8V at the terminals immediately after charge.

The 488A has been sitting on the charging dock for weeks and now holds very little charge — can this battery recover?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of capacity fade in Ni-MH cordless vacuums. Prolonged trickle charge degrades the cells, and recovery is limited once damage sets in. Run a full discharge-and-recharge cycle two or three times — some capacity can return if the damage is early-stage. Going forward, remove the unit from the dock once the charge indicator shows full and only return it when the battery is depleted.
