Fits Dyson V8, V8 Animal, V8 Absolute and other V8 range models using OEM part 215681 or equivalent cross-references 215967-01/02 and 215866-01/02.
Delivers 21.6V at 5000mAh capacity for sustained motor performance across hard floors, carpet, and upholstery cleaning cycles.
Connects via the same slide-lock connector and orientation as the factory pack — no modifications needed to dock or handle.
Bench testing confirmed the BMS accepts the V8 charger without fault codes and holds voltage stable under the vacuum's sustained motor draw.
Remove this pack from the charging dock immediately after it reaches full charge — leaving it docked continuously degrades capacity faster than cycle charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson V8 Range — 21.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (215681)

This is a 21.6V, 5000mAh (108Wh) lithium-ion replacement battery for the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum range, including the V8 Animal and V8 Absolute. It fits the full V8 lineup using OEM part numbers 215681, 215967, 215866, and 967834-02. When the original cell degrades and the vacuum loses suction well before the indicator drops, this is a direct cell replacement.

  • V8 range fit — Animal, Absolute, and standard V8: All V8 models share the same 21.6V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. One battery services the entire V8 lineup without modification or adapters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a V8 Absolute under sustained high-torque load. The BMS held the discharge curve steady across the full cycle and tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold — no mid-cycle shutdowns and no false low-battery flags.
  • Dock charging habit for V8 owners: Do not leave the V8 sitting on the wall dock permanently. The V8 dock delivers a continuous trickle charge once full, which accelerates cell degradation over months. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping hard before the battery indicator reaches low

The V8 motor draws a spike of current whenever suction is restricted — a blocked filter or partial clog forces the motor to work harder to maintain airflow. If the battery cell is aged or a new cell is poorly matched to the BMS, voltage sags under that spike and the vacuum interprets it as a low-charge condition. The result is reduced suction or a shutdown even when the indicator shows two or three bars remaining. Before replacing the battery, wash the filter and clear any blockage in the bin or wand — then retest. If the problem persists with a clean filter, the cell itself is the cause.

V8 motor cuts out briefly then recovers mid-clean

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a flat battery. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor sustains a draw above its rated current ceiling — the BMS cuts power to protect the cell, then resets after a second or two. It looks like a battery fault but is almost always a filter restriction. Remove and rinse the filter, let it dry fully for at least 24 hours, and reinstall. If cutouts stop after a clean filter is back in, the battery was not the fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

My V8 shows a full charge but suction drops to almost nothing within a few minutes — is the new battery faulty?

Most of the time, this is a blocked filter forcing the motor to overdraw current, which causes voltage sag even on a full, healthy cell. The BMS reads the sag as low charge and throttles power before the indicator moves. Remove the filter, rinse it under cold water, and leave it to dry for a full 24 hours before reinstalling. If suction holds normally after that, the battery is fine — the filter was the cause.

I've been leaving my V8 on the wall dock all the time and the battery life has gotten noticeably shorter — did I damage the cell?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of early capacity fade in V8 batteries. The V8 dock keeps a trickle charge running once the battery reaches 100%, and sustained trickle charging degrades lithium cells faster than regular charge-and-discharge cycles. With a new replacement cell, change the habit: charge to full, remove from the dock, and only return it to the dock when depleted. That single change extends cell life significantly.

The V8 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat unused in a drawer for a few months — what's wrong?

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the cell dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell (around 15V pack voltage for the V8's six-cell pack), the BMS enters deep-discharge lockout to prevent damage. Place the battery on the V8 charger and leave it connected for at least two to four hours without interruption — the BMS recovery circuit needs sustained low-current input to re-initialise before it will allow a normal charge cycle. If the charge LED shows any activity after 30 minutes, the recovery is working.
