If your original battery no longer holds a charge or the laptop won't run unplugged, this cell restores full mobile operation.

  • G10L and i-Buddie G10IL1 fit: Both models run the same 11.1V three-cell battery rail with an identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. The same cell works across both without any adapter or firmware change.

Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles to let the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve accurately.

The BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM, which holds the wear history of the old cell at the moment it was removed. A fresh cell has no cycle data written yet, so the BIOS flags it as unknown or degraded — this is an EEPROM mismatch, not a fault with the replacement. The health warning clears once the battery completes a full learn cycle: discharge to hibernate cutoff, then a single uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle the BIOS rewrites the EEPROM baseline against the new cell's actual capacity.

Until the BIOS runs a full learn cycle against the new cell, it displays the EEPROM default rather than the real capacity. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — after that cycle the reported Wh figure will update to match the 73.26Wh rating of this cell.

The fuel gauge on my G10L jumps from 60% straight to 15% and never reads the same twice — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC calibrates its readings against the discharge curve of the specific cell fitted. After a battery swap, it has no reference data for the new cell's voltage-to-capacity curve and produces wild estimates until it builds one. Two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles then uninterrupted charges to 100% give the IC enough data points to stabilise. After two cycles the gauge typically settles to within 5% accuracy across the full range.

My G10L stops charging at 80% and the charge light goes off — is the replacement battery faulty?

This is almost always a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a battery fault. Many ECS notebook BIOSes ship with a battery conservation mode enabled that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during long AC sessions. Check the ECS power management utility or the BIOS power settings menu and disable the charge limit or conservation mode. Once that setting is off, plug in and charge — the battery will accept charge through to 100%.
