Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Emporia Elson EL560 / EL560 Dual — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY26171)
This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion battery replaces the BTY26171 cell in the Emporia Elson EL560 and EL560 Dual mobile phones. It slots into the original battery bay and connects to the same three-pin contact strip. Capacity figures come from the product data — 4.07Wh total energy.
- EL560 and EL560 Dual compatibility: Both variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail. The EL560 Dual adds a second SIM slot but draws from the same cell — no separate battery circuit to account for.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the EL560 platform. The BMS accepted a full charge without triggering overcurrent cutoff, and the protection circuit responded correctly to simulated load spikes from the modem radio.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before using the phone normally. The EL560's fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve — skipping this step leaves the coulomb counter reading against stale data, causing erratic percentage reporting from day one.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the EL560 after cell replacement
The EL560's fuel gauge IC maps remaining capacity by tracking cumulative charge and discharge current against a stored cell profile. A new cell has a slightly different internal resistance curve than the worn original, so the gauge loses accuracy in the lower charge range. When the modem transmits or the screen backlight peaks, current draw spikes briefly — if the cell voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold (typically 3.0V under load), the phone shuts down even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. One full discharge-to-shutdown cycle followed by a complete charge resets the coulomb counter and brings the percentage readings back into alignment with actual cell state.
EL560 not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the BTY26171 dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell before installation, the BMS will have entered lockout mode to prevent further discharge damage. In this state the phone shows no charging indicator and appears completely dead. Connect the phone to a low-current charger — a standard 5V USB wall adapter works — and leave it for 15–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The BMS needs a trickle of voltage to exit lockout before it will accept a normal charge current. Once the charging indicator appears, let the battery reach full charge before powering on.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Emporia EL560 shuts off at around 25% battery — why does this keep happening with the new cell?
The fuel gauge IC on the EL560 is still running calculations based on the old cell's discharge curve, so it misjudges how much charge is left as voltage drops under modem load. When current demand spikes during a call or data activity, the cell voltage briefly sags below the BMS cutoff point — the phone cuts power even though the screen still shows charge remaining. Run one complete discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge straight to 100% without interruption. That single cycle resets the coulomb counter and the shutdowns stop.
The battery percentage on my EL560 jumps around erratically after I fitted the new battery — sometimes it gains 5% without charging.
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against a cell it has never seen before. The coulomb counter accumulated error data from the old worn cell, and those figures don't map correctly onto the new cell's discharge profile. The percentage will stabilise after one full discharge-to-shutdown cycle followed by a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle the gauge locks onto the new cell curve and the jumping stops.
My EL560 feels warm near the battery during the first few charges with the replacement cell — is something wrong?
A new Li-ion cell starts with higher internal impedance than a cell that has been through several charge cycles. The charge IC pushes current into the cell at the same rate it always has, but higher impedance means more energy is lost as heat across the cell during that first charge. This is normal for the first two or three cycles and the warmth should reduce noticeably as the cell's impedance drops with use. If the phone feels hot rather than warm, or the warmth continues past the third full charge, check that the battery contacts are clean and fully seated against the phone's contact strip.
