Fits Emporia FLIPbasic (AK-F220) with 3.7V Li-ion chemistry and 1150mAh capacity.
3.7V nominal and 1150mAh capacity deliver adequate charge for daily calling and text on this senior-focused device.
Connector slides vertically into the battery bay with a single friction latch; no proprietary contacts or orientation tricks.
We bench-tested the cell through three full cycles on the FLIPbasic platform; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with zero fault codes.
After installation, charge the phone fully without interruption — the fuel gauge IC needs one complete cycle to map this cell's discharge curve before accepting data from the modem load sensor.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Emporia FLIPbasic — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AK-F220)

This is a 3.7V, 1150mAh Li-ion battery for the Emporia FLIPbasic (F220) flip phone. It replaces the original AK-F220 cell when the battery no longer holds adequate charge for daily calls and standby use. Fits the FLIPbasic and FLIP basic model variants.

  • FLIPbasic / F220 fitment: The FLIPbasic, FLIP basic, and F220 all use the same AK-F220 cell format — same voltage rail, same connector pinout, and the same BMS handshake with the phone's charge IC. One replacement covers all three model names.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on the F220 platform and confirmed the BMS communicates correctly with the charge IC — charge acceptance was normal, and the protection circuit triggered correctly at both low-voltage and overcurrent thresholds.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge down to phone shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before normal use. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its calibration to the new cell's discharge curve and prevents erratic percentage readings in the first few days.

Why the FLIPbasic reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The FLIPbasic uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks capacity by counting coulombs against a stored discharge curve. When the original degraded cell is replaced, that stored curve no longer matches the new cell's characteristics. The IC keeps reading against old data, so percentages display incorrectly — often jumping or freezing at certain points. One full discharge-charge cycle resets the reference and brings the gauge back into alignment with the actual cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated to the new cell's voltage-to-capacity curve. A fresh cell has a steeper voltage cliff than a worn one — the phone's low-voltage cutoff triggers before the gauge catches up and displays 0%. The fix is the same recalibration cycle: discharge to auto-shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, shutdowns at falsely-high percentages stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

The FLIPbasic screen shows 25% battery left and then the phone just cuts out — is the new battery faulty?

The new cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC calibrated itself to the old degraded cell's discharge curve, so it misreads the new cell's voltage cliff and triggers shutdown before the display reaches 0%. Run one full discharge to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that single cycle, the gauge resets to the new cell's curve and shutdowns at false percentages stop.

The phone is noticeably warm near the battery compartment while charging — should I be concerned?

Mild warmth on first charge is normal. A new cell starts with slightly higher internal impedance than a worn one, so the charge IC pushes current into more resistance, generating a small amount of heat. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or cuts charging early, let it cool and retry. Warmth that disappears after the first two or three charge cycles is not a defect — the cell's impedance drops as it conditions.

The FLIPbasic won't power on at all after the battery sat in a drawer for months — is the cell dead?

The BMS locks out below approximately 2.5V per cell to prevent damage from deep discharge. A cell stored without use can drop below that threshold. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for at least 30–60 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC will slowly trickle current into the cell until the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes. If the charge indicator light activates during that window, the recovery is working.
