Fits Epson R-D1 and R-D1s rangefinder cameras; replaces B32B818232, B32B818233, EPALB1, EU-85 battery packs.
This 3.7V 1400mAh cell delivers 5.18Wh to power the sensor, autofocus, and image processor on the R-D1 platform.
Connector is a proprietary Epson slide-in slot with positive and negative contacts; orientation locks in one direction only.
We bench-tested this cell in an R-D1 body; the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion without authentication delay or error display.
On first use, charge this cell fully inside the camera body itself — the R-D1 firmware maps capacity thresholds during the initial charge cycle, ensuring accurate battery-remaining readout during shooting.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Epson R-D1 / R-D1s — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (B32B818232)

This 3.7V, 1400mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Epson R-D1 and R-D1s rangefinder digital cameras. It slots directly into the battery compartment and powers the sensor, image processor, and the camera's analogue-style mechanical gauges. OEM part numbers B32B818232, B32B818233, EPALB1, and EU-85 all cross-reference to this cell.

  • R-D1 and R-D1s compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V battery rail with the same connector orientation and BMS handshake protocol. The cell geometry — 55.50 × 20.00 × 20.30mm — must match precisely because the R-D1 compartment has no tolerance for dimensional variance.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the R-D1 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the camera's battery gauge tracked the discharge curve without erratic jumps after the first full charge cycle.
  • First-install charge protocol for the R-D1: Insert the new cell and charge it fully through the camera body using the OEM AC adapter before your first shoot. The R-D1's BMS maps remaining capacity against the cell's discharge curve during this initial cycle — skipping it causes the gauge needle to misread from the start.

Why the R-D1's analogue battery gauge reads incorrectly with a new cell

The R-D1 uses a physical dial gauge driven by the BMS voltage-threshold map built during the original battery's break-in cycle. A new cell with a slightly different discharge curve causes the needle to sit above or below the actual state of charge. This is not a fault with the cell — it is the BMS recalibrating against an unfamiliar curve. After one full charge-discharge cycle completed inside the camera body, the gauge tracking normalises.

Camera displaying dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell

The R-D1's low-battery cutoff threshold is set to a voltage that can briefly overlap with a new cell's resting voltage after shipping and storage. The cell arrives partially discharged, and the BMS reads the resting voltage as below the cutoff floor. Place the cell in the OEM charger first — do not try to power on the camera until the indicator shows at least a partial charge. Once above 3.6V, the camera will power on and the BMS will accept the cell normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My R-D1 shows the battery icon flashing immediately after I installed the new cell — is the cell dead?

It is not dead. The R-D1's BMS reads resting voltage on insertion, and a new cell shipped at storage charge can sit close to the low-voltage cutoff threshold. Remove the cell and charge it in your OEM charger until the charge light goes solid, then reinsert. The camera will power on normally once the cell reads above 3.6V.

The battery percentage on my R-D1 jumps from half-full to nearly empty with no warning — what causes that?

The R-D1's battery gauge maps remaining charge against voltage thresholds calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell with a slightly different curve causes the BMS to skip thresholds, so the gauge drops in sudden steps rather than smoothly. Run one full charge-discharge cycle inside the camera body — charge fully via the OEM adapter, then shoot until the camera shuts off on low battery — and the gauge will track the new cell's curve accurately from that point.

My shot count dropped noticeably in cold weather after fitting a new battery — is the cell faulty?

It is not faulty. Li-ion cells lose available capacity when temperature drops below 10°C because internal resistance rises, and the R-D1's sensor and processor draw causes voltage to sag faster under load in the cold. The original aged cell was already cold-adapted in your usage pattern; the new cell has not been. Keep a spare cell in an inside jacket pocket and swap when the camera warns of low charge — cell temperature at 20°C or above recovers most of the lost capacity immediately.
