Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung VP-D351i / VP-DC161Wi Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SB-LSM160)
This is a 7.4V, 1600mAh Li-ion replacement for the Samsung SB-LSM160 battery pack. It fits the VP-D351i, VP-DC161Wi, VM-DC560K, SC-D353, and over 79 additional Samsung camcorder models that share the same battery bay and connector pinout. Capacity matches the original Samsung specification exactly — 1600mAh / 11.84Wh.
- VP-D and SC-D series compatibility: These camcorder lines share a common battery form factor, terminal layout, and BMS handshake protocol. The SB-LSM160 footprint was standardised across Samsung's compact MiniDV and digital camcorder range from that era, so one cell fits the full cluster without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a VP-D series body. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, protection circuits triggered correctly at low-voltage cutoff, and the charge termination voltage held at 8.4V as expected for a 7.4V nominal Li-ion pack.
- First-cycle acceptance on Samsung camcorder bodies: Run the first full charge through the camcorder body itself, not a third-party external charger. Samsung's onboard BMS on these models performs an initialisation handshake during the first charge cycle — skipping this step can cause the battery-remaining indicator to misread from the first use.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the VP-D351i LCD display
Samsung's battery-remaining display on the VP-D series maps voltage thresholds to a fixed lookup table calibrated for the original cell's discharge curve. A new replacement cell — even one at the correct capacity — can have a slightly different discharge curve shape, causing the indicator to jump between levels non-linearly. This is a display calibration issue, not a fault with the cell. Run two or three full charge-to-discharge cycles through the camcorder body and the indicator will stabilise as the BMS learns the new cell's curve. After conditioning, the display should hold steady through the mid-charge range above 7.2V.
VP-D351i showing dead battery icon on a partially charged replacement cell
This happens when the replacement cell arrives in a low storage state and the camcorder's BMS reads the resting voltage as below its minimum acceptance threshold — typically around 6.0V on these bodies. The camera will display a dead or no-battery indicator even though the cell is not fully discharged. Place the cell in an external Li-ion charger first and bring it to at least 7.0V before inserting it into the camcorder. Once the body sees a voltage above threshold, it will accept the pack and allow normal charging to proceed.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VP-D351i shows a dead battery symbol the moment I put in a new replacement — is the cell faulty?
Not necessarily. If the replacement cell shipped in deep storage state, its resting voltage may sit below the camcorder's minimum acceptance threshold, which causes the body to display a dead battery icon immediately on insert. Charge the cell in a standalone Li-ion charger until it reaches at least 7.0V, then re-insert it into the camcorder body. The camera should recognise it and allow normal charging from that point.
The battery percentage on my Samsung camcorder jumps from 80% straight to 20% with no warning — what causes that?
The VP-D series maps its remaining-battery display to voltage thresholds tuned to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell with a slightly different curve shape causes the lookup table to misfire at certain voltage points, producing the erratic jumps. This is a calibration mismatch, not a cell defect. Run three complete charge and discharge cycles through the camcorder body and the indicator will settle as the BMS adapts to the new cell's curve.
The replacement battery drains noticeably faster when shooting outdoors in cold weather — is something wrong with the cell?
Cold temperatures suppress Li-ion cell chemistry directly — internal resistance rises and usable capacity drops, sometimes significantly below the rated 1600mAh at temperatures under 10°C. The VP-D351i's LCD backlight and tape transport also draw additional current in cold conditions as motors work harder. Keep the battery in an inside pocket between takes to hold it near body temperature, and only insert it into the camcorder just before shooting. Capacity returns to normal once the cell warms back to room temperature.
