Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ERA MDA Vario — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WIZA16)
This is a 3.7V, 2350mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the HTC Touch Diamond, sold under the MDA Vario branding. It slots into the original battery compartment and connects via the same three-pin contact pad. OEM part number WIZA16 matches the original cell specification.
- MDA Vario platform fit: The Touch Diamond and MDA Vario share the same chassis and battery bay. Both use the WIZA16 form factor with an identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol — no hardware modification needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge and load cycle on the Touch Diamond platform. The BMS accepted the charge handshake immediately, voltage held steady under display and wireless load, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage threshold.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After fitting this battery, disable any fast charge mode and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle before normal use. The fuel gauge IC on the Touch Diamond calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve — skipping this step leaves the percentage readout unreliable for the first several cycles.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This is a voltage cliff failure, not a capacity problem. The Touch Diamond's processor and modem draw a combined current spike during active calls or screen-on polling that the fuel gauge IC cannot predict from a freshly installed, uncalibrated cell. When instantaneous voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold — typically around 3.0V under load — the phone shuts off even though the reported percentage still looks healthy. One full discharge-charge cycle lets the coulomb counter map the actual voltage-to-capacity curve of the new cell. After calibration, the shutdown threshold aligns with real remaining capacity and the cliff behaviour stops.
Phone not powering on after the battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if voltage drops below approximately 2.5V per cell the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent damage. The Touch Diamond will show no response — no boot screen, no charge indicator. Connect the phone to a low-current USB charger and leave it untouched for 20–30 minutes. The charge IC trickle-charges the cell back above the BMS re-enable threshold, typically 2.9V, at which point the protection circuit resets and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My MDA Vario shows the battery percentage jumping around after I put in the new cell — is something wrong with it?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC on the Touch Diamond is still calibrated to the old battery's discharge curve, so it misreads the new cell's voltage-to-capacity profile and the percentage readout jumps. Run one full discharge — use the phone until it shuts off automatically — then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that single cycle the coulomb counter recalibrates against the new cell and the percentage stabilises.
The phone feels warm near the battery compartment while charging — should I be concerned?
Mild warmth during the first few charge cycles on a new cell is normal. A fresh Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in one, and the charge IC dissipates a small amount of extra energy as heat while the cell conditions. If the phone becomes uncomfortable to hold or the warmth persists beyond the first three cycles, check that you are not using a charger that exceeds the original 5V/1A specification — overvoltage from a non-standard charger will cause continuous excess heat.
The MDA Vario won't charge past about 80% with the new battery — what's causing that?
This is usually the charge IC applying a conservative current profile while the BMS on the new cell is still in its initial acceptance state. Some replacement cells require two or three full cycles before the charge IC and BMS negotiate the full constant-current to constant-voltage transition correctly. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles without interrupting the charge. If the cell still cuts off well below 100% after that, check the charging contact pins on the phone for oxidation — clean them with a dry cotton swab and retry.
