Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fairphone FP1 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (F1B101)
This 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Fairphone FP1, F1B101, and F1B201. It fits the modular battery bay and connects via the original pogo-pin contact strip. Capacity is 6.66Wh — identical to factory spec.
- FP1, F1B101, and F1B201 compatibility: All three share the same 51.30 × 50.80 × 5.60mm cell envelope, 3.7V nominal rail, and pogo-pin connector layout. The BMS handshake protocol is also consistent across these variants, so the replacement cell communicates correctly with the charge IC on each board revision.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on an FP1 unit. The BMS accepted the new cell without faults, charge termination triggered cleanly at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff engaged as expected before cell damage could occur.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated coulomb counter — which prevents erratic percentage readings early on.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Fairphone FP1
The FP1's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the original cell's internal resistance profile. A new cell has lower impedance, so the reported state-of-charge doesn't match actual voltage under load. When the modem transmits or the screen peaks in brightness, voltage drops sharply — the BMS trips the low-voltage cutoff while the OS still reads 25%. One full discharge-to-cutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and closes this gap.
Phone not powering on after the battery sat in storage
If the replacement cell discharged below 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks charge current to protect the cell from damage. The phone will show no response when connected to a charger. Connect to a wall adapter — not USB — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without attempting to power on. The BMS trickle-charges the cell back above the reinitialisation threshold, typically around 2.9V, at which point normal charge current resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Fairphone FP1 shuts off at around 25% battery — why does this keep happening with the new cell?
This is a voltage cliff issue, not a fault in the replacement cell. The FP1's fuel gauge IC still uses the discharge curve from the old degraded cell, so it misreads the new cell's state-of-charge under load. When the modem or screen draws a current spike, voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the OS reports 25% remaining. Run one full uninterrupted discharge to automatic cutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption — this resets the coulomb counter to the new cell's actual curve.
The battery percentage on my FP1 jumps around erratically after I swapped the cell — is the battery faulty?
It is not a fault. The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating against a cell it has never seen before, so its estimates are unstable in the first few cycles. Each full discharge-to-cutoff and full charge-to-termination cycle gives the coulomb counter more data points to anchor to. After two or three complete cycles the percentage readout stabilises. Do not top up or interrupt charges during those first cycles — partial cycles slow the recalibration down.
Fast charging stopped working on my FP1 after fitting the replacement battery — what happened?
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC sometimes defaults to standard charge current until it confirms the new cell's BMS is responding correctly. This is a one-cycle handshake behaviour, not a permanent fault. Let the phone complete one full charge at standard rate without disconnecting it early. On subsequent charges, fast charge current should resume once the charge IC has logged a clean charge termination cycle against the new cell.
