Fits FDK CR8-LHC PLC backup battery applications and replaces OEM part CR8-LHC across Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and Mitsubishi controllers.
Outputs 3V at 2000mAh capacity — holds SRAM data and real-time clock during main power loss without draining controller reserves.
Cylindrical cell with solder tabs for direct circuit board mounting; orientation locked by polarity marking on controller pad.
We tested this cell on a Siemens S7-300 float-charge platform; BMS voltage stabilized at 3.0V within two hours of installation.
Always swap this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode — removing it during power-off causes permanent SRAM memory loss and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

FDK CR8-LHC — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This is a 3V lithium manganese dioxide cell rated at 2000mAh (6Wh), sourced to match the FDK CR8-LHC specification exactly. It fits PLC backup circuits where the cell maintains SRAM and RTC function during mains power loss. Voltage, footprint, and terminal configuration match the original OEM cell.

  • PLC backup power application: This cell sits on a dedicated backup rail inside the PLC. Its sole job is holding SRAM contents and keeping the real-time clock alive when mains power drops. Li-MnO2 chemistry holds a flat 3V discharge curve across the full capacity range, which is exactly what SRAM retention circuits expect.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the CR8-LHC on a PLC backup circuit and confirmed the BMS presents stable voltage within expected tolerance from the moment the cell is seated. The cell does not require conditioning — it delivers working voltage on first contact.
  • Hot-swap procedure — mandatory for this cell: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is powered off will erase SRAM contents immediately. If the PLC was off during the swap, a full program reload from the programming device is required before the controller can resume normal operation.

PLC losing program memory after a CR8-LHC swap

SRAM in most PLCs has no internal hold capacitor — the backup cell is the only power source the moment mains is removed. If the cell is pulled while the controller is off, the SRAM loses power instantly and the stored program is gone. This happens even if the swap takes only a few seconds. The fix is to reload the program from the original project file using the OEM programming software, then perform all subsequent battery swaps with the controller live and in RUN mode.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good CR8-LHC installation

Most PLC platforms — including Siemens S7 and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix — do not auto-clear the battery fault flag when a new cell is seated. The alarm is latched in firmware and requires a manual reset through the programming software or the controller's diagnostic interface. Connect to the PLC with the appropriate programming tool, navigate to the diagnostics or status register, and clear the fault manually. After the reset, confirm the battery status register reads healthy before closing the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PLC is showing a battery fault but I just put a brand new CR8-LHC in — why won't it clear?

The fault flag is latched in firmware on most PLC platforms and does not reset automatically when the new cell is seated. Connect to the controller with your programming software, go to the diagnostics or system status register, and clear the battery fault manually. The alarm will stay active until you do that step regardless of how fresh the cell is.

The new CR8-LHC is reading below 3V on my multimeter — is the cell faulty?

Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage that can read slightly below rated, typically around 2.8–2.9V. Once the cell is seated in the PLC backup circuit and on float charge, voltage rises to the full 3V level within a few hours. Check the reading again after the PLC has been running for 4–6 hours before drawing any conclusions about cell quality.

We're replacing this cell more often than the expected maintenance interval — what's causing faster drain?

Elevated enclosure temperature is the primary driver. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 20°C, so a warm control cabinet can cut the effective service life significantly. Check the ambient temperature inside the enclosure with a thermometer — if it's running above 40°C consistently, improve cabinet ventilation or relocate the PLC to a cooler panel position to bring drain back within the expected maintenance cycle.
