Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GE FANUC CNC Power Mate Series — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (A98L-0031-0006)
This is a 3V, 2000mAh lithium-manganese dioxide cell that backs up SRAM memory in the GE FANUC CNC Power Mate 0, D, E, and F controllers. It replaces OEM parts A98L-0031-0006, A02B-0118-K111, A02B-0177-K106, A02B-0200-K106, A03B-0805-K011, A06B-0168-D111, and IC693ACC301. When this cell depletes, the controller loses all stored programs, parameters, and machine configurations on the next power cycle.
- Power Mate 0, D, E, F compatibility: These controllers share the same SRAM backup circuit, connector footprint, and BMS handshake voltage threshold — a single Li-MnO2 cell at 3V nominal satisfies the retention rail across the entire Power Mate family.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed cell insertion, voltage recognition, and SRAM hold behaviour on a live Power Mate controller. The BMS accepted the cell immediately and the memory retention flag cleared without a controller restart.
- Hot-swap is mandatory on this controller: Always replace this battery with the Power Mate powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the old cell while the controller is off — even briefly — drops SRAM voltage to zero. That wipes every stored program and parameter. A full reload from the programming device is then required before the machine can run.
Why the Power Mate loses program memory after a battery swap
The Power Mate SRAM has no capacitor-backed hold circuit — the battery is the only voltage source keeping memory live when mains power is off. The moment cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V, SRAM contents are gone. This happens instantly if the old cell is removed while the controller is powered down, and it also happens gradually as a depleted cell can no longer sustain that threshold. Swapping hot — controller powered, in RUN — keeps the SRAM rail above 2.5V throughout the replacement and prevents any data loss.
Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation
On FANUC Power Mate controllers, the battery alarm is a latched fault — it does not self-clear when a new cell is installed. The controller flags the alarm when voltage drops below threshold and holds it until it is manually reset in the programming software. After installing the replacement cell, navigate to the alarm or diagnosis screen in FANUC's programming interface and issue a manual reset. If the new cell reads slightly below 3V immediately after installation, that is normal — Li-MnO2 cells ship at storage voltage and recover to full rated voltage within a few hours on the controller's float circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions
We swapped the battery and now the Power Mate is showing a memory error — did we lose the program?
If the old cell was removed while the controller was powered off, yes — the SRAM lost its voltage source the moment the cell was pulled and the program data is gone. The controller needs a full program and parameter reload from the programming device before it can run. Going forward, always remove and insert the replacement cell with the Power Mate powered on and in RUN mode to keep the SRAM rail live throughout the swap.
The battery alarm is still showing on the controller after we installed the new cell — is the cell faulty?
The alarm is almost certainly latched, not active. FANUC Power Mate controllers hold the battery alarm flag even after a good cell is installed — it does not clear automatically. Go to the alarm or diagnosis screen in the FANUC programming software and issue a manual reset. If the cell reads slightly under 3V right after installation, leave it — Li-MnO2 cells recover from storage voltage to full rated output within a few hours on the controller's float charge circuit.
Our Power Mate battery seems to deplete much faster than the rated shelf life — we're replacing it every year instead of every few years.
The likely cause is enclosure temperature. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C above 20°C, so a control cabinet running at 40°C or above will drain this cell two to four times faster than the datasheet figure. Check the ambient temperature inside the enclosure near the battery slot. If it consistently exceeds 35°C, improve cabinet ventilation or add a small fan to bring the local temperature down — that alone will significantly extend the interval between replacements.
