Fits Fisher-Price M6163, J2457, TEL10160, and J2458 parent units with original battery.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers stable voltage across talk cycles without sag.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab on the left side.
We tested the cell on bench charge cycles — the Ni-MH BMS accepted full voltage immediately, no conditioning delay required.
After inserting this battery, re-pair the parent unit with the camera unit using the sync button — the M6163 loses wireless connection when power drops completely.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fisher-Price M6163 / J2457 / J2458 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery for the Fisher-Price baby phone parent unit. It fits the M6163, J2457, J2458, and TEL10160 handsets — the two-way audio monitors parents use to speak with and listen to infants in another room. Swap this in when the original no longer holds a charge between uses.

  • M6163, J2457, J2458, TEL10160 compatibility: These four models share the same parent-unit housing, 3.6V power rail, and battery bay dimensions. The connector orientation and cell count are identical across the range, so one battery fits all four.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the parent unit's charge circuit and confirmed the protection circuit responds correctly to the unit's charge termination signal. The BMS held stable during the audio transmission draw typical of two-way baby phone operation.
  • Re-pair after fitting: Baby phone parent units lose their wireless link to the camera or base unit when power drops completely. After fitting this battery, hold the pairing button on both units until the link indicator confirms the connection — the audio channel will not open without this step.

Parent unit battery draining overnight during normal monitoring

The parent unit screen staying on through the night is the most common cause of faster-than-expected battery drain. At 3.6V with a 700mAh cell, the screen backlight plus active radio draw can pull the battery down significantly before morning. Fisher-Price's firmware on the M6163 and J2457 includes a screen timeout setting in the menu — activate it after fitting a new battery. Set the timeout to the shortest interval you can tolerate; the audio channel stays live even with the screen off.

Reduced range on parent unit after battery replacement

If the parent unit drops signal or shows more static than usual after a battery swap, the radio transmitter is likely operating below its rated voltage on a partially discharged cell. The RF output on these monitors is voltage-sensitive — at the low end of the 3.6V curve, transmit power falls and effective range shrinks. Charge the battery fully before the first use and retest range from the same location you used before the swap. If range remains short on a full charge, the issue is interference or antenna contact inside the unit, not the battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

The parent unit shows full bars on the battery indicator but won't connect to the camera unit after I swapped the battery — why?

A complete power loss to the parent unit clears the stored wireless pairing between the two units. The battery indicator reflects charge level, not pairing status — those are independent. Hold the pairing button on the camera unit first until its indicator flashes, then hold the pairing button on the parent unit until both indicators lock solid. The audio channel will not open until both sides confirm the link.

Night vision on the camera unit stopped working right after I put a new battery in the parent unit — is the battery faulty?

The camera unit's IR LEDs pull more voltage during night vision operation than during standard audio monitoring. If the parent unit battery was fitted without a full charge, the power rail drops below the threshold the camera unit needs to activate the IR array. Charge the parent unit battery fully — do not use the monitor until the charge indicator shows complete — then switch night vision on again. If IR still fails on a full charge, check that the camera unit itself has uninterrupted mains power.

The parent unit charges but the battery goes flat much faster than the old one did — what is happening?

Ni-MH cells ship in a partial or depleted state and need two to three full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. The 700mAh rating on this battery applies after conditioning, not out of the box. Run the parent unit until the low-battery alert sounds, then charge it fully — repeat this two more times. If capacity still falls noticeably short after three cycles, check that the charging cradle contacts are clean and making firm contact with the parent unit terminals.
