This happens because the FOB 8749's alarm threshold is tuned to the capacity curve of the OEM cell. A new replacement cell has not yet established its discharge curve in the BMS memory, so the device flags it as low before actual depletion. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle lets the BMS map the new cell's curve and clears the premature alarm. Do not use the device in a clinical setting until this conditioning cycle is complete.

Connect the unit to its charger for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before attempting to power on — this brings the cell above the BMS recovery threshold and allows normal startup.
The FOB 8749 is shutting off unexpectedly during use even though the battery shows as charged — is the cell defective?
Not necessarily. Medical device load profiles stress new cells harder in the first 10 cycles because the BMS applies tighter cutoff thresholds until it has mapped the cell's actual capacity. A sudden shutdown during use in this break-in period is the BMS tripping on a conservative voltage floor, not a faulty cell. Run five full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use — after conditioning, the BMS recalibrates its cutoff and the early shutoffs stop.
The charge indicator on my FOB 8749 never reaches 100% with this replacement battery — is the charger or the battery at fault?
The charge IC applies a conservative current taper on new or unrecognised cells, which makes the indicator stall below 100% on the first one or two charges. This is normal behaviour — the charger is protecting the cell, not malfunctioning. Leave the device on charge until the indicator clears or the charger LED changes state, confirming the taper phase completed. By the second full charge, the IC will have characterised the cell and the indicator will reach 100% normally.
