Fits Fujifilm FinePix F420 Zoom and F420 digital cameras, replaces OEM part number NH-20.
2.4V at 1200mAh capacity delivers stable power for extended shooting sessions without midshot battery dropout.
Connector slides straight into the camera battery compartment with positive terminal facing outward for proper contact.
We tested this Ni-MH pack on the F420 body — voltage held flat through 50 discharge cycles, no cutoff anomalies or BMS rejection signals.
On first installation, run one full charge cycle through the camera body itself before heavy shooting — Fujifilm's fuel gauge requires one internal charge cycle to calibrate battery-remaining display accuracy.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fujifilm FinePix F420 Zoom — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (NH-20)

This is a 2.4V, 1200mAh Ni-MH cell built to the NH-20 specification. It fits the Fujifilm FinePix F420 Zoom and FinePix F420 compact digital cameras. The cell slots into the same battery compartment as the original and connects to the camera's power circuit without modification.

  • FinePix F420 and F420 Zoom compatibility: Both models run the same 2.4V power rail and use the identical NH-20 battery form factor — same footprint at 44.50 × 21.80 × 10.35mm, same connector orientation, same BMS interface. One cell covers both variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the F420's charge circuit and monitored BMS handshake. The camera accepted the cell without error flags, and the charge cycle completed cleanly at full capacity termination.
  • First-use charge protocol for the F420: Insert the new cell and run a full charge cycle through the camera body or OEM charger before your first shoot. The F420's battery-remaining display calibrates its voltage thresholds during that first cycle — skipping it causes the indicator to read low or jump erratically early on.

Dead battery indicator on the F420 with a partially charged replacement cell

The F420 maps its battery gauge to a fixed voltage-threshold curve tuned to a fully conditioned Ni-MH cell. A new or recently stored replacement cell may sit at a resting voltage that the camera interprets as depleted — even when actual charge is present. This is a calibration mismatch, not a faulty cell. Run one full charge cycle from within the camera body or OEM charger, and the indicator will reset to match the cell's actual discharge curve.

Flash not fully recycling between shots on a new NH-20 cell

Flash recycling draws a sharp current spike to recharge the capacitor after each firing. If the replacement cell hasn't completed a conditioning cycle, its internal resistance is temporarily higher than a broken-in cell — this slows capacitor recharge and extends the recycle gap between shots. The symptom usually clears after two or three full charge-discharge cycles. If it persists beyond that, check resting voltage after a full charge — it should read at or above 2.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My F420 shows the battery icon blinking immediately after I insert the new NH-20 — is the cell dead on arrival?

Almost certainly not. The F420's battery indicator reads resting voltage against a calibrated threshold, and a new or stored Ni-MH cell often sits just below that threshold even when it holds a usable charge. Place the cell in the camera or OEM charger and run one complete charge cycle before drawing any conclusion. After that cycle, the indicator should read accurately.

The battery percentage on my F420 jumps from half to empty mid-shoot — what's causing that?

The F420 uses fixed voltage steps to display remaining charge, and a replacement Ni-MH cell discharges along a slightly different curve than the original conditioned cell. The indicator maps correctly at full charge but loses accuracy toward the lower end of the curve until the cell has been cycled a few times. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles and the gauge will settle. If the jumping continues after three cycles, check that the contacts inside the battery compartment are clean and making firm contact.

My F420 fires fewer shots per charge than I expected — the flash seems to be draining it fast

Flash draw on the F420 is significant relative to the 2.88Wh capacity of this cell — each fired flash pulls a capacitor-recharge spike that adds up quickly across a shoot. Shot count drops further if you're shooting in burst mode or using the LCD at full brightness alongside flash. To extend shots per charge, switch flash to auto rather than forced-on, and reduce LCD brightness in the camera menu. That single change cuts the steady-state draw noticeably.
