  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through full charge and discharge on the FX-8322 platform. The BMS completed its cell verification handshake on first connection, and the charge IC accepted the cells without fault flags on the first charge cycle.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, do not interrupt the FX-8322's power-on sequence. The device runs a BMS verification step at startup. Low battery alarm triggers immediately after a confirmed full charge

This happens because the FX-8322's battery monitoring circuit compares the cell's reported capacity against a stored OEM baseline. A new replacement cell has not yet completed a learn cycle, so the BMS underestimates actual charge and trips the low-battery alarm early. Run one complete charge-to-discharge cycle before clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its capacity estimate and the alarm threshold aligns correctly with actual cell state.

In the first several cycles, new lithium-ion cells have not yet reached full electrolyte wetting, which means internal resistance is higher than it will be after break-in. The FX-8322's load profile during an active ECG recording draws enough current to cause a brief voltage sag on a high-resistance new cell, which the BMS reads as a cutoff condition. The device shuts down to protect the cell rather than completing the acquisition. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the battery for uninterrupted clinical recordings.

The charge indicator on the FX-8322 won't reach 100% on the first charge — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The FX-8322's charge IC applies a conservative current limit on the first charge cycle when it detects cells with no prior cycle history. This causes the charge to taper early and the indicator to stall below 100%. Allow the first charge to run to termination without disconnecting, then discharge the unit normally and charge again. The second cycle will reach full capacity and the indicator will read correctly.

The FX-8322 won't power on at all after the replacement battery was left unused for several weeks before installation — how do I recover it?

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the cell voltage dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell (10V total for this 4S pack), the BMS enters a protection lockout and blocks normal charging. Connect the battery to the FX-8322 charger and leave it connected for at least 60 minutes without attempting to power on the device. Most BMS circuits on this chemistry allow a slow pre-charge recovery trickle before re-enabling the main charge path. If the charge indicator shows any activity after that period, allow a full charge to complete before powering the unit on.
