Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Fukuda FC-560 — 12V 3000mAh Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 12V 3000mAh Ni-MH battery for the Fukuda FC-560 portable electrocardiograph. It fits directly into the FC-560 battery compartment and restores the machine to full operating capacity. Capacity figure is sourced from the product specification — 36Wh total energy.
- FC-560 platform fit: The FC-560 uses a 12V Ni-MH cell block sized to its internal bay — 212.40 x 45.70 x 23.60mm. This battery matches that envelope. The BMS on the FC-560 expects Ni-MH charge curves, and this cell responds correctly to that charge profile without triggering chemistry mismatch faults.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the FC-560 charge-discharge sequence and monitored BMS handshake at startup. The self-test passed cleanly after one full conditioning cycle. Voltage held above the device's low-battery cutoff threshold throughout discharge.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, let the FC-560 complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting it. The device runs a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power mid-sequence trips a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot. Do not disconnect or press reset during the first boot.
Why the FC-560 flags a battery fault on the first boot after swap
The FC-560 runs a startup verification routine that checks cell voltage and internal resistance against stored thresholds calibrated to a conditioned OEM cell. A fresh replacement cell that has not completed its first full charge-discharge cycle may sit just outside those thresholds. The device interprets this as a fault and logs it. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use brings the cell into the expected range and clears the flag on the next boot.
Charge indicator stalling below 100% on the first charge
On the first charge, the FC-560 charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell — this is normal behaviour, not a fault. The indicator stalls because the IC is waiting for the cell's internal resistance to drop as it warms into its first cycle. Let the charge run to completion without interrupting it. After one full cycle the resistance drops, the IC recognises the cell profile, and subsequent charges reach 100% at the expected rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
The FC-560 is showing a low battery alarm straight after a confirmed full charge — is the new battery faulty?
It is not faulty. The FC-560's BMS compares cell voltage and internal resistance to thresholds set for a conditioned OEM cell. A new Ni-MH cell has elevated internal resistance on its first cycle, which the device reads as insufficient capacity. Run one full charge-discharge cycle without using the machine clinically, then recharge to 100%. The alarm clears once the BMS completes its learn cycle and internal resistance settles below the threshold.
The FC-560 will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for several weeks — what happened?
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A cell stored for several weeks can drop below 9V, which is below the FC-560's BMS recovery threshold — the device will not boot from that state. Connect the charger and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before attempting to power on. If the charge indicator responds within 15 minutes, the cell is recovering; if there is no response after 30 minutes, the cell may have dropped below the charge IC's minimum recovery voltage of approximately 8.4V and will need a trickle pre-charge.
The FC-560 is shutting off unexpectedly mid-recording during the first few days of use — what is causing this?
New Ni-MH cells do not reach rated capacity until after 5–10 full charge-discharge cycles. During early cycles the FC-560's load profile — powering the display, analog front-end, and thermal printer simultaneously — draws peak current that causes voltage sag on an unconditioned cell. The BMS reads the sag as low battery and cuts power to protect the device. Run the cell through at least three full cycles before relying on it for uninterrupted clinical recordings. Voltage sag stabilises as the cell conditions and usable capacity increases toward the rated 3000mAh.
