My Gardena Groom Barber blade is spinning but cutting nothing — why does it bog down on thin stems it used to handle fine?

This usually means the battery is delivering enough voltage to spin the motor but dropping under load — a classic capacity fade symptom in shallow-cycled Li-ion packs that never get fully discharged before recharging. The rotary blade on the Groom Barber draws a short, sharp current spike each time it contacts a branch, and an aged or undersized cell can't sustain that spike, so the motor lugs instead of cutting. We've seen this behaviour start around 2.8V per cell under load even when resting voltage looks healthy. Charge the replacement fully before first use, then run it down completely on the first two cycles to let the cells calibrate.

The Groom Barber stopped mid-session and now won't turn on at all — not even a click when I press the trigger.

The most likely cause is the battery's built-in protection circuit tripping on over-discharge — this happens when a depleted Li-ion pack sits unused for weeks and the cell voltage drops below the 2.5V cutoff the BMS is watching for. At that point the pack locks itself out completely and won't respond to the trigger or the charger until it receives a recovery charge. Put the battery on the charger for at least 30 minutes before assuming it's dead — some chargers need to detect a minimum voltage before they begin, so try a different USB or wall adapter if the charge indicator stays dark.
